Chopper crash kills 7 airmen in B’dnon M A L AY BA L AY C I T Y, Bukidnon -- Seven airmen killed in a Philippine Airforce Huey helicopter that crashed rainy Saturday, January 16, in Barangay Bulonay, Impasugong, Bukidnon. Brigadier General Ferdinand Barandon, 403rd Infantry Brigade commander of the Philippine Army said that the chopper was in its routine flight for a “troops resupplying” mission to an army patrol base in the rugged mountain when it crashed, killing all aboard. The ill-fated chopper airsupport team was composed of two pilots, two gunners, and three airmen, according to the 403rd Infantry Brigade (403Bde), Philippine Army based here in Malaybalay City. Major Jennan Montealto, 403Bde spokesperson listed the dead as Lt. Col. Arnie Arroyo; 2Lt Mark Anthony
Caabay; Sgt Mervin Bersabe; and Airman First Class Stephen Agarrado of Philippine Airforce. Sgt. Julius Salvado of the Philippine Army and two members of Active Auxiliary—Jerry Ayocdo and Jhamel Sugalang—also perished. Bad weather and rugged terrain took the 8th Infantry Battalion rescue team, led by 8th Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Edgardo Talaroc Jr, several hours to reach the crash scene. The seven bodies were brought at Saint Peter funeral homes in Malaybalay City on the same day. Later, at about Sunday noon, the bodies of the four Airforce crew were taken to the Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group (PAF-TOG 10) at Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City. AS the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is set to observe Bangsamoro Foundation Day on Jan. 21, a Palace official on Sunday expressed hope that the region will continue pursuing moral governance. Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar made this remark ahead of Bangsamoro Foundation Day, a non-working holiday in celebration of the establishment of the BARMM. “We are one with our Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating the Bangsamoro Foundation Day, with this year’s theme ‘Moral Governance: Building Strong Foundations for a Better Bangsamoro,’” he
