VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental--Second district Rep. Last January 9, the 51 shipping containers of garbage at the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Misamis Oriental are scheduled to be sent back to South Korea. Uy thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for shouldering the $47,430 in shipping costs without the arrastre and demurrage charges. Uy also appreciated the effort and time spent by officials of South Korea and
the Philippines Bureau of Customs who worked on the details of the return of the shipment to Korea. The congresswoman noted that on or before January 30 there will also be a bulk shipment consisting of 5,197.91 tons of waste garbage as agreed upon by the two panels of officials. “It is my expectation that the importer Verde Soko, a locator company in the Phividec Industrial Estate will bear the arrastre, demurrage, clean up, and any other costs pertaining
to garbage brought in,” the Misamis Oriental solon said. “I thank Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero for guiding the talks to resolve this matter swiftly,” she added. C ongresswoman Uy pointed out that Verde Soko is not yet free of responsibility after the garbage is sent back to Korea. “Verde Soko will have to answer to the provincial government, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and to the Phividec Industrial Es-

Uy also said, “there is still the unresolved case of the garbage shipment from Canada.” Misamis Oriental second See HOUSE, page 11

Industry captains hail Normin’s 2018 investment performance By Mike Baños, Editor-at-Large
PUBLIC and private officials have all expressed elation over Northern Mindanao’s (Region 10) record-breaking investment performance for 2018 as recorded by the Board of Investments (BOI).
Northern Mindanao accounted for the lion’s share of the P907.2 billion investments registered with the BOI in 2018 with P228.8 billion, or 25.2% of the total, well above the P7.2 billion a year ago, for an astounding 3,063% increase. “BOI’s figure on Northern
Mindanao investments is very encouraging. Investors are really looking at countryside development rather than center on Metro Manila and the other bigger metro centers,” said Eileen San Juan, Local Economic and Investment Promotions Officer who heads
the Cagayan de Oro Investments, Trade and Promotion Center (Oro-TIPC). “For Region 10, there is a lot of opportunity to establish business especially for its strategic location as well as connections to the supply chain. For Cagayan de
Oro City having consistently been in the Top 10 Most Competitive Highly-Urbanized Cities in the last 6 years, this brings prominence of the city’s growth and development directions. Local government has also See HAIL, page 15
