MARAWI City--Hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) trooped to the city hall ground here, on Thursday, August 22, trying their luck to be given the livelihood assistance the government, through the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), has promised to them as part of the rehabilitation and rebuilding of Marawi City. Wearing his big smile, Camal Batabor went home bringing a big box full of grocery items for his sarisari store he requested from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) when he registered his name a year ago when the TFBM
launched the Kawiyagan. Dubbed as “Siyap sa Marawi, Gagaw ko Pagtao” or Pag-aalaga sa Marawi, Pagmamahal sa Kapwa in Filipino (Caring Marawi is loving your fellow in English), Kawiyagan is a series of distribution of livelihood assistance to the IDPs organized by the members of Sucommittee on Business and Livelihood of TFBM. Batabor, who is living in Barangay Ambolong, lost his sari-sari store when his family evacuated during the Marawi siege in 2017. GENERAL Santos City-Majority of madaris, or private Islamic schools, in the Bangsamoro region and adjacent areas want government recognition to get needed support, a study conducted by a Mindanao think tank showed. Citing results of the study titled “Research on Traditional Madaris in ARMM and Adjacent Regions,” Benedicto Bacani, executive director of the Cotabato City-based In-
stitute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG), said that most madaris are struggling with their operations due to limited resources and are hoping for government interventions. ARMM stands for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which has been replaced by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in February.
