The t wo exhibit rooms at the ground level house the ethno history and ethnology of Northern Mindanao while the Fr. Francisco Demetrio Gallery at the second level house the memorabilia of the founder of the original Xavier University Folk Life Museum in 1967. Mayor Oscar Moreno, who cut the ribbon during the symbolic reopening, said everytime he has visitors in his office, he would always make sure to suggest Museo de Oro in their itinerary. “We are very rich in history. In other countries, tourists make sure to visit museums first before going anywhere else,” Moreno said. Meanwhile, visit-
ing National Museum archaeologist Dr. Mary Jane Bolunia was equally impressed with all the collections at Museo de Oro. “Educational museums need not be a monopoly in Metro Manila. They must be also be located in the provinces so people would know their culture,” Bolunia, also the head of the famed balangay excavation te am in nearby Butuan City, quipped. She was particularly awestruck with the lifelikeness of the Matigsalug mannequins inside Exhibit Room 1. MUSEO DE ORO | Page C2
