Suspects shot cops conducting surveillance; 1 hurt, 3 arrested By Noel B. Najarro of PNA

BUTUAN City––Policemen doing some surveillance works Sunday afternoon were fired upon by four suspects, hitting one of them both on his legs which landed him at a local hospital. Three of the suspects were however arrested during the ensuing police hot pursuit operation. Reports from Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office reaching the regional headquarters here Monday said that a shooting incident transpired at 1:30 a.m. Sunday in Purok 3, Brgy. 6, Cabadbaran City. Police investigation disclosed that personnel from the Cabadbaran City Police

Station Theft and Robbery Unit composed of PO1 Ernesto Davieh Corvera Mortola, PO3 Gary Ranque Gelbolingo, PO2 Vincent Alburo Cosicol, PO2 Rhyl Jaictin Torion and PO1 Aristeo Razon Dorado conducted surveillance and patrol on board their individual single motorcycles. When the cops reached Purok 3, Lutao in Brgy. 6, the said policemen encountered two suspects riding a red and black single RACAL motorcycle, running on high speed using the opposite lane. The policemen, accordingly, called on the suspects to halt, but the suspects instead of stopping tried to elude arrest. This prompted PO1 Mortola who was last in the group of policemen to

make a U-turn and chased the two suspects. The other members of the group who had gone ahead followed suit by also making a U-turn to follow PO1 Mortola. Accordingly, the other policemen suddenly heard some gunshots and saw PO1 Mortola fallen from his motorcycle to the concrete pavement, hurt but was returning fire. It was known later by the policemen that the victim was hit on both of his legs. PO3 Gelbolingo and his companions conducted the hot pursuit operations against the two suspects who entered a riverbank community along the river dike. PO1 Mortola was rushed to Cabadbaran City Hospi-

tal but was later referred to a private hospital in Butuan City. Police investigators recovered five fired shells of Caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. During the hot pursuit operation, three of the four suspects were arrested, according to the police. At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, one suspect identified as Alex Monte Banglan “alias Mazo,” 22; single and jobless, resident of Purok 3, Brgy. 12, Cabadbaran City was apprehended in an apartment located in Purok 3, Brgy. 12, Cabadbaran City. The two other suspects identified as Sailani Onti, 20; separated, jobless and a resident of Purok 3, Brgy. Lutao Brgy. 12, Cabadbaran City, the driver of RACAL single motorcycle and a cer-

tain Camaroding Macadatar Carim alias “Dragon”, 37, a resident of the said place was also seen at the crime scene. He was said to have acted as the look-out and back-up of the said group. Both were arrested in Brgy. Taguibo in Butuan city at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. One suspect identified as Avan Mamao, and a resident of Funcion St., Brgy. 3, Cabadbaran City remains at large. The three arrested suspects are now temporarily detained at Cabadbaran City Police Station for proper disposition and for the filing of appropriate charges against them. PRO 13 is hiring BUTUAN City––The Police Regional Office 13 is looking for additional three hundred and twenty-five (325)non-uniformed personnel here in Caraga Region. The PRO 13 information office told local media outlets here Friday that this is in line with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) 7,439 vacant position for non-uniformed personnel intended to be utilized as crime registrar for the police stations nationwide.
