CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Despite having been elected as president of the Misamis Oriental chapter of the Liga ng mga Barangay Chairmen last December 18, Mario Emano was not recognized
by the provincial board as the legal representative to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday during the SP’s first regular session in 2014. Vice Governor Joey Pelaez, as presiding officer, said he respected the decision of the board in voting
for incumbent ABC chapter president Arsenio Khu Jr. to sit in the session. Pelaez said he has no power over what the SP decides and that the motion was approved to recognize Khu because Emano had not produced a confirmation from the national executive
board of the Liga ng mga Barangay Chairmen. “As soon as Emano can secure a confirmation then he will automatically sit as representative of the ABC,” Pelaez said. For his part, Khu said he will immediately step down if Emano is confirmed by
the Liga’s national board. “There was a miscommunication in the date of the election last December,” Khu said. “I had written to the national board for postponement of the December 18 election and this was granted,” he said, adding
