AGADIAN CITY – The Philippine Army has awarded medals to 9 soldiers who took part in defending Zamboanga City from separatist rebels in September, a spokesman said on Monday. Captain Jefferson Somera, of the 1st Infantry Division, said the soldiers displayed gallantry in action during the Zamboanga crisis. They were awarded Gold Cross, Bronze Cross and Wounded Personnel medals during a simple ceremony at the army headquarters in Labangan town in Zamboanga del Sur province. He said the Gold Cross Medals - the third highest medal for gallantry in combat - were awarded to First Lieutenant Robert Martin Dimailig, Sergeant George Neri, Corporals Sajack Alam and Ramil Castillon. The Bronze Cross Medals went to Technical Sergeant Eduardo Abog, Staff Sergeant Thuaheron Pangulima, Sergeants Kashir Hussin and Manuel Suarez Jr, and the Wounded Personnel Medal was given to Sergeant Freddie Centenales. Somera said Brigadier General Felicito Virgilio Trinidad Jr, the commander of 1st Infantry Division, led the pining of the medals. “The heroism and gallantry displayed by these soldiers during the Zamboanga City siege have been seen and known far beyond the four corners of our Command. Civil service exam for Zambo reset to Dec. 15 By FELINO M. SANTOS

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has reset anew the conduct of its Career Service Examination (CSE) for some 5,000 examinees in this city. The CSC was scheduled to conduct Sunday, November 10, the examination in this city but did not push through because of the onslaught of super typhoon "Yolanda". The hardest hit area was the Visayas region. CSC Regional Director Macybel Sahi said the onslaught of typhoon "Yolanda" prevented the shipment of examination paraphernalia from the CSC-central office in Manila to this city. The examinat ion was earlier set to be held in this city last October 13 but the standoff in September prompted the CSC to suspend it. From then, it was rescheduled for November 10 and suspended anew because of typhoon "Yolanda". Sahi said the suspension of the examination is not only in Zamboanga but in other parts of the country as well. (PNA)

is not a loan but a grant to the LGUs.” “Although the barangays of Digon and Igat Island have existing water system, the water supply remains a problem in the area,” Engr. Alex Villarin reported. “Once completed, the water system project will also serve as an economic enterprise in the village,” Villarin added. SaLinTubig is DILG’s lone program enrolled under the national government’s Bottom-Up Budget-

Trinidad called on the public to also donate relief goods such as bottled water, rice, canned goods, noodles, mats, blankets, medicines and clothing. Tropical storm Haiyan, locally named Yolanda, struck the country and swept across the provinces of Leyte, Samar, Cebu, Iloilo and Capiz, leaving thousands dead and forcing hundreds to scamper to evacuation centers. It also damaged several houses, commercial buildings, infrastructures as well as agriculture. Trinidad said the division

would be accepting donations starting Sunday until Tuesday at 6 p.m. A C1-30 cargo aircraft will transport the relief goods to the areas hardest hit by the super typhoon, division public affairs chief Captain Jefferson Somera said. Government employees, businessmen and professional and civic organizations immediately responded to the text message sent by the DPAO by bringing their relief goods to the 1st Infantry division and to the regional office of the Philippine Information Agency Office (PIA).
