he public and private sector have joined forces to invest in the future of Laguindingan as an airport hub linking Northern Mindanao to the rest of the island and the Visayas. In a brief ceremony held Friday, 20 October 2017 at Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental, (IATA: CGY) top executives of the country’s leading airline and chief executives of the government from the national, regional and local level launched the facility as the 7th Regional Hub of Cebu Pacific Air (PSE: CEB). “Despite the current situation in Marawi City, Cebu Pacific has seen the promise of what Mindanao can be, and can become in the coming years,” said Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. “Laguindingan serves thousands of passengers daily and is integral to economic activity in the CagayanIligan Corridor,” noted Marvin Cui, Director, CEB Standards and Compliance for Airport airport/PAGE 7
Marawi kids enter a new world in Smart storytelling session Eleven-year-old Aman Binasing is among the thousands of people displaced by the armed conflict in Marawi. For months he has dealt with the challenges of living in an evacuation center. But for one day, he was able to leave his worries behind and enter an amazing world where magical hats can fly and where laundry women can possess superpowers. PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications recently treated Aman and dozens of children like him to a special leg of the storytelling caravan it has brought all over the country. The storytelling session, held at the Philippine Army headquarters in Taguig, was part of daylong activities prepared by the MVP group of companies for kids of Marawi. The children, aged five to 13, listened in rapt attention to stories narrated by Rey Bufi of the
Storytelling Project and employee volunteers of Ericsson Philippines. The kids also volunteered to act as characters in a story, and participated actively in dance exercises and games, where some of them got story books as prizes. “I enjoyed the stories the most,” Aman said.
