agayan de Oro’s first Thai restaurant has re-opened its doors to the loyal faithful and is now even more Thai than ever! During the 23 October 2017 soft opening attended by friends in mainstream and social media, we were apprised on the reason for the renovation of the place simultaneously opened in 2013 with Centrio Mall and the revamp of its menu. “Almost all of the other restaurants around the Centrio
Garden were either new, or had undergone renovations and menu upgrades,” noted Jan Uy, who together with wife Maggie and Managing Partner Cathy L. Dano, put up the original place four years ago. “So we thought it’s high time we freshen up the look of TMU Centrio as well as introduce a new menu
to reward our patrons who’ve remained faithful to us through all these years,” Jan added. The change is instantly recognizable even from the outside, with a brand new Thai Me Up Logo right over the door. “In keeping with the Thai menu, we wanted to achieve an ambience similar to what you’d experience in a real Night Market in Thailand,” said Jan, who came up with the concept for the look
of the original TMU Centrio in 2013, as well as the original TMU restaurant along Gen. N. he Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 10 offered its first one town one product (OTOP) concept store right beside the agency’s regional office along Corrales-Luna, this city. Jose said the MSMEs were first vetted according to DTI standards before they were awarded to be displayed at the showcase outlet.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles) also supported the campaign initiated by President Duterte against illegal drugs and corruption. It also sponsored seminars and symposiums in the different schools and barangays to educate the students and residents on the evils of illegal drugs. The Fraternal Order of Eagles under the leadership of Kuya Louie Ceniza allocated P100 thousand through the Civil Aviation Board in Butuan City for the expenses in the training of nineteen K-9 dogs which were then assigned in the different airports in the country. Ritchie Salloman: when art comes a’ knocking

t was in the 1990s that Ritchie Salloman had a colorful career as a journalist covering both here and in Zamboanga City. Then at the turn of the millennium, Salloman switched careers and became a businessman. He started
selling structural lighting to industrial, commercial and residential establishments alike all over Mindanao. In fact, Salloman’s company was behind the famous globe lights in Divisoria during the early part of this decade. By the early 2010s, Salloman decided to
diversify his business – he put up a beach resort. It was in the coastline of Bayabas, this city that Sonrisa Vista beach resort was born. Salloman is no stranger to innovation. Sonrisa features an aviary entrance, a pond with a baby crocodile inside, airconditioned rooms shaped into an Indian tepee, etc.
There was one little problem though. He wanted each of his seven tepee-style rooms to have three paintings mounted on the wall. But paintings nowadays command a steep price. He saw a solution. He painted. Recalling a bygone talent during his Zamboanga high school days, Salloman painted oil on canvas. In a span
of 37 days, he managed to finish a total of 21 artworks. That was in 2014 when Sonrisa was still in its infancy. Today Salloman continues painting. He just had his one-man exhibit mounted up at Limketkai Center. The theme of his debut show is Westerns because he simply loves
horses and Indian stuff. (Salloman has a total of 14 horses of various breeds in his ranch in barangay Lumbia.) Look at his Sonrisa property and you’ll see that the theme there is Western too. But that’s just for now. There’s more art from Ritchie Salloman that we will be expecting in the coming years to come.

At present, the “Libreng Text at Tawag” services are located in five (5) evacuation centers in Iligan City: Kanaway Evacuation Center, Tibanga; Sta. Elena Gymnasium, Sta. Elena; Buru-an School of Fisheries, Buru-an; Buru-an Gymnasium, Buru-an; and Maria

With the service, displaced families can now inform their relatives, both here and abroad, of any further assistance needed. The “Libreng Text at Tawag” service includes free NDD and overseas calls and will be expanded to include other evacuation centers in the coming the days. Iligan City Schools Division, for her part, will be sending 23 delegates to the NSPC, 14 of them composed two radio broadcasting teams in elementary level in Filipino and secondary level in English who were adjudged regional champions. Other qualifiers for NSPC in group contests were Misamis Oriental in collaborative publishing elementary level in Filipino while Cagayan de Oro City schools division won both English and Filipino media in secondary level for the same group event. Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro have 11 and 18 NSPC qualifiers, respectively, while Bukidnon which topped television script-writing and broadcasting in Filipino has 17 NSPCbound students.

claims to leadership I am 64 now. I traveled all around the world. I met innumerable leaders in different companies and institutions. I experienced “good” and “bad” leaders. My “good” leaders, just a handful - maybe, became my mentors. Each one in his or her own very special way. The others I sorted out. Forgot them... . Quitters never win and winners never quit! Basta! My first leader’s motif - a publishing house director, whom I met during my college time. This saying has been imprinted in my mind and heart till today. As a result, when I started teaching German language in the Institute of Languages and Creative Arts at University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City almost ten years ago, I used this and other sayings helping my students to remember these key points. As I said before: just only a handful awesome leaders crossed my path. In Germany, in the U.S. and lately also here in the Philippines. I learned a lot from them and their behavior. I also learned from negative leaders, those, catching people doing things wrong. Why don’t leaders spend at least an hour a week wandering around their operation catching people doing things right AND wrong? My first boss in Germany really did it this way. One could talk to him. Many leaders wait to praise their people until they do things exactly right. Problem: mostly, one waits forever. Up to now, I see a lot of unmotivated people at work or students at school, but I have never seen them after work or school! When office is done and school is over, people race to do such things that provide them with positive feedback on results.
My students in Have My Say USEP are getting tired many times. I try to tell them, that learning is more important today than ever before. In the past, if a person was loyal and worked hard,his or her job was secure. Also during Klaus Doring my time in the 1960’s and 1970’s or even early 1980’s. Today, the skills you bring to the party constitute the only available form of job security. When you stop learning, you stop growing. Albert Einstein, once said: Never stop learning and ask questions. A perfect leader should be included. It really depends on how you talk to the people! In one of my previous write-ups, I mentioned: Dream hard but work harder. I have to rethink this. How about this: Don’t work hard - work smarter. This saying is common sense but not common practice as America’s best-selling business author Ken Blanchard voiced it out. If you don’t take time out to think, strategize, and prioritize, you’ll work a whole lot harder, without enjoying the benefits of a job smartly done. As an ordinary worker or as the Big Boss. Vision Petron opens Fuel Creativity Exhibit at Bencab Museum In its 17th year, Vision Petron, the multi-awarded national student art competition of oil industry leader Petron Corporation, opened its Fuel Creativity Exhibit at the Bencab Museum in Baguio, last October 14, 2017. The month-long exhibit is a retrospective painting exhibition featuring selected works of Vision Petron National Student Art Competition grand prize winners over the years. Originally conceptualized as an art competition to inspire young artists from all over the country, Vision Petron has evolved to become a venue for expression, even on social issues such as the environment, and now includes photography, T-shirt design, videomaking, and most recently, music. The Philippines has been the world leader in the BPO industry since 2010, surpassing India in the global ranking. As of 2015, there were already 1.2 million Filipinos employed in the BPO sector compared to an estimated 2.4 million OFWs working anytime during the period April to September, 2015. In 2014, the country’s BPO $18.9B BPO earnings were still overshadowed by the $24.6B OFW remittances in 2014, comprising almost 10 percent of the country’s GDP. But revenues from the BPO sector would very likely to outpace remittances from OFWs by 2018,Joey Cuyegkeng, ING Bank Manila senior economist, said during a recent press conference on the bank’s global economic outlook. Cuyegkeng said this was possible because BPO revenues are seen to grow at an average of 9 percent yearly toward 2022.
