EL Salvador City, Misamis Oriental--Rescuers who were trying to retrieve a body found floating off the coast here on Tuesday were kept at bay by two aggressive sharks, a rescuer reported. Joel Caballa, a member of the local “Bantay Dagat” (coast guards), called up a local radio station here and reported about an unidentified dead male body while sharks feast on it, 10 kilometers off the shore of Molugan, a coastal village of El Salvador in Misamis Oriental. He said that the local anglers reported the discovery of the floating body Tuesday morning, prompting a flotilla of “Bantay Dagat” and fishing boats to sail to the scene to retrieve the body. “We could not get near the body because the big sharks, more than 2-meters long, are circling the body. The sharks were eating the limbs,” a horrified Caballa reported over the radio. He said that the sharks have already consumed See SHARKS, page A11

PNoy to BBL critics: propose better solution DAVAO City––President Benigno S. Aquino III only had a few words to say about the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) but he snapped back at those opposing it during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday. But Aquino challenged them to propose a better solution to resolve the longstanding conflict. He called on Congress
to pass the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and urged those who are opposing it to propose a meaningful alternative. “If you do not present an alternative, you are only making sure that progress will never take root in Mindanao,” he said in Filipino. “Ilang buhay pa ang kailangang ibuwis para magising ang lahat sa See better, page A11

CAGAYAN de Oro City-A lawmaker here gave an almost perfect rating on President Aquino’s State-ofthe-Nation Address (SONA) last Monday. Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, of Cagayan De Oro City, gave a rating of “9,” in a scale of “10,” to Aquino’s SONA for bringing the country to a “higher level of economic development.” Rodriguez ratings run in contrast to the “fair” ratings of lawyer Antonio Soriano, head of the local civil society group and the “7” ratings of City Councilor Ramon Tabor of Cagayan De Oro City. Soriano gives thumbs up on Aquino’s achievement in infrastructure projects and Tourism while Tabor also appreciated Aquino’s infrastructure programs, defense, and education. Prelates, biz group’s leader not contented on PNoy’s SONA By MARK FRANCISCO Staff member
THREE key personalities from Northern Mindanao all expressed disappointments on the last State of the Nation Address (SONA) of
President Benigno Aquino III saying that their expectations were not included on the 46 items that Aquino mentioned in his two-hour long speech. This, even as at least four groups staged protests in the
city while the President’s speech was ongoing – three of them anti-administration while one was pro-administration. Msgr. Perseus Cabunoc, rector of the See leader, page A11
