Also present to signify their support were senior officers from World Bank headed by its East Asia and Pacific Vice President Axel van Trotsenburg, Japan International Cooperation Agency in the Philippines’ Chief Representative, Noriaki Niwa, International Finance Corporation, and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP). The visit to the camp sends a strong message of willingness to bring investments into the Bangsamoro Region and provide employment and income opportunities. “We are happy that you (private sector) are manifesting a strong message that there is hope,” MILF Chairman Murad said. “Your coming is a very strong manifestation of your keen interest in helping us achieve our aspirations. We will not bear fruit unless everybody will be on board, especially you, the private sector,” he added. Furthermore, as he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the private sector for the gesture, he guaranteed support to their business endeavors in Mindanao. “We cannot say other words but to assure you that the MILF is willing to be your partner in achieving prosperity,” MILF Chairman Murad said. He also assured the private sector that alongside the negotiations for the Bangsamoro Basic Law, they are working on normalizations on the ground to ensure that changes will be sustained. As proof of success, John Perrine, the Chairman of Unifrutti Group, claimed of the company’s more than nineteen years of uninterrupted operations in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur despite the conflicts. He also provided evidence of the flourishing investment in the area, potential for expansion, and the increasing interest of investors. The meeting was organized by World Bank and PBSP as a strategy to encourage investments and help shape an enabling investment environment not only for the Bangsamoro, but for all the Filipinos. Concrete next steps will be formulated to continue the discussions, including the establishment of a coordinating mechanism between the MILF and the private sector. This activity is also conducted in coordination with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, through its Coordinating Committee on Cessation of Hostilities.

and other key employment generators in the country. BLE Director Dominique R. Tutay said that children must be exposed to these kinds of career opportunities wherein they do not just become agriculturist but also become entrepreneurs by going up the value chain in manufacturing agriculture products, thus earning more. She said that food is very basic and critical in order to develop and sustain the country. We must harness Agribusiness otherwise we just keep on importing from neighboring countries, she said. Based on the labor force survey from July 2014 to July 2015, youth unemployment rate increased almost 1% from 15.8%

to 16.4% whereas it was declining from 2010 to 2013. Meanwhile, Region 10 labor force decreased from 2,076 in 2014 to 2,022 in 2015. In fact, Tutay said that youth composes half of the unemployed population where 50.4% or 1.351M youth from 15-24 years old while 46.3% or 1.241M from ages 25-54 years old do not have jobs. She said that based on the labor market information report from 2013 – 2020, key employment generators include Agribusiness, Mining, Manufacturing, Power, Construction, IT-BPM, Health and Wellness, Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Wholesale and Retail Trade, Banking and Finance, Transport and Logistics, Ownership, Dwellings and Real Estate and Education. Meanwhile, emerging industries include renewable energy and shipbuilding. Key employment generator is a major industry group with great potential to generate employment and absorb bulk of the workforce in the years to come. Meanwhile, emerging industry is an industry group growing at a rate faster than the economy and exhibiting potential to grow and prosper, thus capable of generating a large number of new and fresh employment. She said that it is important to know what is in the labor market especially in making decisions for their career. Tutay said that DOLE together with the Department of Education (DepEd), Philippine Regulations Commission (PRC), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Public Employment Services Office (PESO) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) have convergent programs on Jobs-Skills Matching particularly in K to 12, Philippine Qualifications Network, Career Guidance Advocacy Program and Enhanced PhilJobNet with the support of the Networks of Career Guidance Counselors in region 10. She also urges the youth to check PhilJobNet online at http:// www.phil-jobnet.dole.gov.ph/ to find jobs and may download its app on mobile. A total of 1.5M companies are registered in the system. Job seekers can also search for job fairs in their area, Top Jobs and Top Hiring Companies. (JMOR/PIA10)

Oaminal said the project, expected for completion in 2019, would have its fund through a loan from the Korean Exim Bank amounting to Php4.453 billion, while the national government would fund the remaining P633-million as its counterpart. He said that when completed, the 3.6 kilometer bridge would accelerate economic growth in Mindanao’s North and Western regions as products and services would freely flow in these areas. With the latest development, investors are now eyeing the various prospects that the neighboring areas of Misamis Occidental especially in the cities of Tangub, Ozamis and Oroquita could offer, Oaminal said. He said that the economic development and prospects would certainly radiate toward Lanao Del Norte and the developing cities of the Iligan-Cagayan De Oro Economic Corridor. According to Oaminal, the operation and maintenance of the Panguil Bay Bridge would be

assigned to a private contractor, which would collect toll fees from the motorists in coordination with the National Economic and Development Authority. (PNA)

from page 1 in the afternoon. There will be talks on chocolate making and the business behind it as well as, a search for the best chocolate dessert. The event will also feature special guests, chefs Jackie Ang Po and Rolando Laudico, who will be talking about making and cooking chocolates. CIDAMI executive director Val Turtur said in Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw that the core of the event is really to highlight Davao as a cacao-producing city. Other than the usual chocolate exhibits, SM City Davao, which will be holding the event in the mall’s annex building, will handle tours for children and students to educate them about the processes involved in making chocolates. SM City Davao assistant mall manager Nick Santos said local chocolate makers and artisans will be on the spotlight during the event. This year, there will be 20 exhibitors, including local chocolate artisans like Lara Mia, Coco Dolce, Kablon, Malagos, and Cacao de Davao. Turtur said that since the event debuted last year, many of the cacao farmers under CIDAMI are now engaging in cacao processing and exploring ventures that involve chocolate products. By opening windows to promote value added products, he said that his can potentially

increase the income of cacao growers as compared to just farming cacao. The ripple effects of events like this, he said, can lead to inclusive growth and value of cacao that many farmers can benefit from. Turtur said he hopes more and more farmers will learn to use modern technologies wisely in producing and processing cacao products because these can potentially increase yield and production. The Davao Chocolate Festival will also hold interactive contests like scoring the festival’s Golden Ticket that entitles holders freebies (more chocolates) from the exhibitors. A chocolate capsule is currently on display and customers may post about in social media. Guessing the number of chocolate coins the capsule contains gives them a chance to win a golden ticket.
