Davao coco industry

DAVAO City -- A coconut industry player in Davao Region is embarking on new innovation to increase production and value-adding as coco by-products are in demand in the international market. Benjamin R. Lao, president and chief executive officer of the Lao Integrated Farms, Inc., said there was huge demand in the international market for products derived from coconut such as coco sugar, syrup, virgin coconut oil, desiccated coconut, coco water, juice, and coco coir. Lao said his company, for instance, ships 50 percent of the production of coco syrup, sugar and teriyake sauce to the United States while the other international markets were Australia, France, Canada and Japan. He said they could produce 2,500 liters of coco syrup and 1,000 kilos of coco sugar daily.

CDO tops Mindanao cities in revenue dependency By MARK FRANCISCO, Staff Writer

CAGAYAN de Oro has topped other Mindanao cities in local revenue dependency for 2016. According to a report released Wednesday by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF), Cagayan de Oro City sourced 51.39 percent of its revenue from local sources for that period. Tagum City came next with 45.93 percent. Davao City, the largest locality in the island, came in third place at 41.93 percent.

The report also stated that Cagayan de Oro has consistently topped the list for the past three years after successfully snatching the spot from Tagum City in 2013, the year that Mayor Oscar Moreno took over as chief executive of the city. Cagayan de Oro ranked only 16th nationwide though with the top 15 spots all dominated by Luzon and Visayas cities. Topping the NCR-exempted list was tops/PAGE 11

Diokno assures budget for Marawi City rehab BUDGET and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno on We dnes day assure d Marawi City residents that the government has the funds for the area’s rehabilitation. In a briefing, the budget chief said authorities had yet to determine the actual rehabilitation cost but said the DBM had an available PHP5 billion from the national risk reduction fund for this year. “We will not be constrained by funding,” he said, adding that there are groups like the World Bank (WB) that had committed to help in the rehabilitation.

Diokno, who was in the US last week to attend the annual meetings of the WB and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, said WB experts had discussed with the Philippine delegation ways on how to rehabilitate Marawi City, liberation of which was declared by President Rodrigo R. Duterte Tuesday. He said among the options cited are the mechanics on the rehabilitation of Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. He pointed out that what the government really budget/PAGE 11
