Tesda scholars A TOTAL of 35,000 vocational scholarships is up for grabs in Northern Mindanao, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) said Wednesday. Visiting TESDA Director General Guiling A. Mamondiong said that he was impressed with the performance of TESDA regional office that the number of scholarships was awarded “on the spot.” Mamondiong was in the TESDA Northern Mindanao regional office here last Tuesday for the first time since he assumed the post last July, where he met head of TESDA’s provincial offices and 164 tech-voc schools in the region.

Palace forms task force for media protection

HE Bureau of Customs in Nor thern Mindanao is intensifying its antismuggling efforts as its operations now go beyond the ports. A l v i n Y. E n c i s o , Customs Intelligence and Investigation Services (CIIS) chief, said their focus is not only in the seizure of smuggled items inside the ports but also on going after business owners who store these goods in warehouses. Early this week, BOC and PDEA conducted a series of raids that led to the confiscation of hundreds of boxes containing cigarettes and other imported products. Customs estimated the value of the seized items at P10 million although it is expected they will find more contraband in the coming days as they continue to s e a rc h f or w a re h ou s e s containing smuggled goods. customs/PAGE 11

Price freeze MAMBAJAO, Camiguin -- In view of Proclamation No. 55 issued on September 4, 2016 declaring a state of national emergency on account of lawless violence, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camiguin Provincial Officer is imposing a 60-day Price Freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities. Pursuant to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 7581, The Price Act, as amended, prices of basic necessities are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices or place under automatic price control. In the province of Camiguin, as soon as the declaration was made, the consumer welfare division (CWD) visited business establishments, talked to the owners and managers, provided all copy of the memorandum on prize freeze and Proclamation No. 55 series of 2016.

More than 200 mangrove seedlings were planted during the activity within the three-hectare SPI-assisted mangrove development project in Brgy. Molugan, El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental. The activity aims to heighten teachers consciousness on the importance of their role in environmental protection and conservation.

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed an administrative order creating a presidential task force on violations of the right to life, liberty and security of members of the media. P r e s i d e n t i a l Communications Operations (PCO) Secretary Martin Andanar said President Duterte signed last Oct. 11 Administrative Order No. 01, entitled the Presidential Task Force on Violence against Media Workers. ” The reason why the P re s i d e nt w a nt e d t h i s administrative order is because he cares for the media and he believes in the freedom of the press,” Andanar said in a press briefing.
