Briefly Zero casualty MISAMIS Oriental reported a zero casualty during the onslaught of Typhoon “Yolanda” (int’l codename Haiyan), the world’s strongest typhoon this year. Provincial administrator Edmundo Pacamalan, Jr. said the province attained a zero casualty due to preemptive measures adopted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) two days before Yolanda arrived. He said that as a preemptive measure, the provincial government has established 193 evacuation centers in the province where more than 43,000 individuals have been evacuated. According to Pacamalan, the PDRRMC has now entered the “augmentation stage” where depleted supplies such as medicines and foods is being replenished in the municipal level.

Biz permits ZAMBOANGA City -- Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has called on the business sector to renew their permits the earliest time possible to avoid the rush and payment of penalties. Salazar made the call as the city government last week started receiving applications for renewal of business permits for next year. Under the law, the deadline set for the payment of business taxes is January 20, 2014. Salazar said that late payments will mean 25 percent surcharge and 2 percent additional penalty for every month of delay.
