Major investments DAVAO Oriental -- Major investments on infrastructure and tourism are set to boost economic development in the province of Davao Oriental as the Provincial Government inked a Memorandum of Understanding with investors of a private company Design Invest Develop (DID) Groups Ltd. Last week at the Provincial Capitol. Aligned with the Davao Oriental Reconstruction and Development Framework 20132016, this potential investment is seen to help realize the Building Back Better strategy of the provincial government to help spur development inDavao Oriental, especially in the three typhoon-ravaged towns in the east coast. Gov. Corazon N. Malanyaon, who strongly pushes for major investments here in the province, said she is optimistic this potential investment will help reshape Davao Orientaland transform it into a major investment haven and premiere tourism destination in the region and even in the country. Carmelo Laburada, Head of the Provincial Center for Promotions on Investments and Trade (CPOINT), said that this undertaking will involve a PublicPrivate Partnership (PPP) on Public Infrastructure and Tourism Development for which DID will bear the funding for the prospected projects.
P1.5-B aid DAVAO del Norte -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) poured in a total of P1.5-billion to the three towns of Davao Oriental, which are highly affected by Typhoon Pablo. DSWD Sec. Corazon “Dinky” Soliman disclosed recently that the national government, through her office, allocated more than a billion worth of projects to Baganga, Cateel and Boston, all towns of Davao Oriental that Typhoon Pablo made a major damage almost two years ago. Sec. Dinky Soliman said that the bulk of their funding covered modified shelter assistance in the province, which amounts to more than P1.3-billion and gave shelter to 18,432 families.

House presses DOE on updated energy plan T

HE Department of Energy (DOE) has submitted a Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) covering the periods 2012-2030, but Congress is requiring an updated one, not an “obsolete version.”
“I have a letter to DOE… we gave them the time, but still they have not submitted an updated one,” House committee on energy chairman Reynaldo V. Umali has noted. He intimated that the department must comply w it h t h e l aw – a s t h e submission of annually updated PEP is a mandate under the Electric Power Industr y Reform Ac t (EPIRA). Umali said they are asking
the Energy department to submit a plan from 2014 that must manifest the realities of supply-demand situation moving forward, including the anticipated dilemmas of 2015 and 2016. Investors and array of stakeholders have been batting for a “more concrete energy plan” that must be laid down by the department so they can also be guided for ward on how to time their planned projects. presses/PAGE 7
