URIGAO City -- Electric cooperatives in Mindanao want to corner energy supplied by two diesel power plants of the Alcantara-owned Alsons Consolidated Resources, Inc., whose 18-year contract to supply power to National Power CorporationPower S e ctor Ass ets and L iabi lities Management Corporation. (NPC-PSALM) is about to end.
WHILE milk and cream products consistently get into the top 5 agricultural imports in the past five years, National Dairy Authority (NDA) Deputy Administrator Naomi k. Torreta urged investors to consider dairy farming industry while it offers a wider market. Local producers now capture a growing share of liquid milk market that grew at an annual average of seven percent in the last five years (2010-2014), compared to only five percent annual average growth of imported liquid milk. Torreta said local milk sufficiency has been stable for the past five years, and share of local liquid milk has significantly increased to one-third (1/3) of the total liquid milk demand from mere one-fourth (1/4) level in 2010.

Thursday that members of the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (AMRECO) met in
Cagayan de Oro City Tuesday to discuss their planned deal with Alsons, whose two power plants in Mindanao generates a total of 155 megawatts. AMRECO is the umbrella organization of 33 electric cooperatives in Mindanao. Alsons’ Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC) has a 100-megawatt plant located in Sangali, Zamboanga City. ‘Noche Buena’ products The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is now closely monitoring the prices and supplies of products in view of the coming onset of the Christmas season, a DTI official said Thursday. Ma. Eloisa Pabillore of the DTI in Northern Mindanao, said that the department is especially monitoring prices of “Noche Buena” products, which have started to proliferate in the local market. Pabillore identified some of these Noche Buena products as ham, fruit cocktail, cheese, sandwich spread, mayonnaise, keso de bola, pasta, spaghetti, elbow and salad macaroni, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and cream.
