Briefly Volunteerism swells DAVAO City -- An official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the region noted the overwhelming support from the people in Davao Region on the relief drive for the typhoon Yolanda stricken areas in the Visayas. DSWD-11 regional director Priscilla Razon said the response from various private and public organizations was greater than the support given on the relief operation for assistance for the victims of typhoon Pablo in Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental and Davao del Norte in December 2012. She said volunteers reporting to the inter-agency relief operation center at the depot of the Department of Public Works and Highways would average at 700 to 1,370 daily. Razon said DSWD has been receiving assistance for food and water provisions for the volunteers from the restaurants and hotels initiated by the tourism sector of the city.
Proposed budget CAGAYAN de Oro City councilors have expressed reservations on the basis of the projected revenues that would qualify a P2.6-billion budget in 2014 during a committee hearing last Wednesday. City Councilor Candy Darimbang questioned the finance committee created by Mayor Oscar Moreno on how it came up with a P2.6-billion proposed budget with an actual revenue collection only a little over 10 percent of its projection. Darimbang was referring to the miscellaneous income presented by the city treasurer Glenn Banez in the amount of P42 million for 2014. Banez presented an estimated amount of P33 million for the second semester of 2013 and a total amount of P35 million until the end of 2013. With the projected income, the city government expects a P45 million income in 2014.
