BROWN campaign AS November is declared the National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM), the Department of Agriculture (DA) drums up the Be RICEponsible in your Own Way Now (BROWN) campaign. This is in support to the country’s effort to attain rice sufficiency, improve farmers’ income, and promote better health among rice consumers. As the name suggests, DA urged the people to opt for brown rice, as it is a healthier choice.

More flights cancelled to give way to APEC Summit By ANTONIO L. COLINA IV, MindaNews

AVAO City – A total of 41 flights from Davao to Manila and vice versa have been cancelled from November 15 to 20 to give way for the arrival of heads of states attending the APEC Leaders’ Summit in Manila. In an advisory issued on Tuesday by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the cancellations of flights started on Sunday, affecting passengers of Manila-Davao-Manila flights of Philippine Airlines (PAL).

Program to raise output of cacao gets P160-M budget By CARMELITO Q. FRANCISCO, Correspondent

DAVAO City -- Mindanao’s Cacao Double-up program is getting a P160-million allocation for 2016 from the Department of Agriculture (DA), which will go mainly to farmers groups in identified priority areas. Undersecretary Janet M. Lopoz, executive director of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), said farmers can soon start applying for a share of the fund intended to increase cacao production, initially through intercropping in existing coconut farms. “For farmers groups to be able to access the money, their areas must be within the priority areas that the DA has

identified,” Ms. Lopoz told BusinessWeek Mindanao. The Davao Region is the leading coconut grower in Mindanao, followed by the Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga Region, and the program/PAGE 7
