Briefly ‘Kasambahay’ wage hike ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Domestic workers or “kasambahays” in Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) are set to receive a salary increase of P1,000 a month, effective November 22. Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) secretary Joel Ijirani, said in a press conference late Friday that Wage Order RIX-DW-02 on granting a P1,000 monthly wage increase to the domestic workers' minimum salary, issued last October 22, takes effect 15 days after its publication in a newspaper of general circulation. “The wage order will take effect on November 22 since it was published on November 7,” Ijirani said. “Kasambahays” working in cities and first-class municipalities will receive a minimum monthly salary of P3,500, up from P2,500, while those working in other municipalities will receive a minimum of P3,000 a month, up from P2,000, he said.
Palay prices fall THE average farmgate price of palay, or unmilled rice, declined in the second week of October by 0.2% week-on-week to P15.53 per kilogram (kg), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said. According to PSA’s weekly price update, the average wholesale price of well-milled rice fell 0.5% week-on-week to P37.85 per kg. Retail prices fell 0.1% to P41.89. The average wholesale price of regular-milled rice fell 0.5% to P33.70 per kg, week-on-week. Retail prices declined 0.8% to P37.22.
