Text scams THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warns the public on the various text scams that continue to persist and are being 4 cents proliferated through the use of mobile phones. Such recurring text scams declare that the receiver has won in a purportedly electronic or mobile numberbased raffle/lottery, allegedly sponsored by the BSP or any of its official/representative. The receiver is then instructed to deposit a sum of money or send a prepaid load to the sender’s account to claim the prize money. The BSP reiterated that it does not sponsor or engage in any games of chance, lottery or raffle of such nature.

Eagle hunt DAVAO City -- A total of 400 pairs of Philippine Eagles are being monitored by the Philippine Eagle Foundation to look closely on their behavior and habitat. Vidalyn Dumadag, communications officer of the PEF said the move is in line with the PEF’s mission in saving the eagles. She said that there are 35 eagles in captivity which are being nourished by the foundation. “Eagles in the wild are constantly threatened with the denudation of forests and hunting, shooting and trapping by individuals who are not aware of their importance to the environment,” Dumadag said.

Bukidnon hydro A 68-MEGAWATT (MW) hydropower project of an Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower) Mindanao unit is scheduled to be operational in 2017, according to the parent company’s latest quarterly report. AboitizPower said “Hedcor Bukidnon, Inc. plans to start construction of the Manolo Fortich project within the second quarter of 2015.” “The project broke ground in April 2015 and... commercial operation is planned for yearend 2017,” the report read.

FTER presenting its working draft to President Benigno Aquino III on Sunday night, the House’s ad-hoc committee on the Bangsamoro Basic Law, has begun voting on the second version of the bill on Monday with fewer deleted provisions.

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, chairman of the ad hoc panel, said they started the committee deliberations yesterday with only three or four provisions that have been deleted from the new working draft, which

he called the chairman’s and vice chairmen’s draft. The 3-4 deletions are in contrast to the eight provisions earlier deleted from the bill. “This is the best that we can do,” Rodriguez said. bbl/PAGE 11
