Surigao backs BBL TANDAG City – The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) in Surigao del Sur chaired by Governor Johnny Pimentel has expressed support to the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL). “Carried unanimously by the members present,” Resolution No. 05, series of 2015, entitled Expressing Support To The Proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) Subject To The Amendments To Be Introduced By Congress, was passed during the meeting of the PPOC-Crisis Management Committee (CMC) held on May 6, 2015 at the PGO Conference Room, Capitol, this city, which the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) facilitated, being the secretariat, according to Ma. Lourdes Martinez, DILG outcome manager. Both solons of the province— Congressmen Philip Pichay and Florencio Garay of the 1st and 2nd District, respectively—have already endorsed the same, the DILG manager added.

Agri-trade fair SURIGAO City – A total of eight assisted agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBOs) were tapped by the provincial office of the Department of Agrarian Reform in Surigao del Norte (DAR-SDN) to participate in the 2015 Surigao del Norte agri-trade fair from May 9-15, 2015 held at the Provincial Sports Complex Oval, this city. The said ARBOs displayed and showcased their organization’s priced products in the DAR-SDN booth. The ARBOs’ products are Pure Tableya of Honrado Farmers Credit Cooperative (HONFACRECO); Dried Pijanga of Magpayang Rural Farmers Producers Cooperative (MARUFAPCO); Nipa Vinegar of Cabugao First Farmers Consumers Cooperative (CAFIFACOCO); Banana Chips and Calamay of Trinidad Farmers Agra Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TRIFAMCO); Turmeric Herbal Powder of Garcia Farmers and Fisherfolks Credit Cooperative (GAFFARCRECO); Dried Squid of Cantapoy Farmers and Fishermen Credit Cooperative (CAFFCRECO); Coconut Candy and Papaya Pickle of Barangay Uno Poblacion Credit Cooperative (BUPCC); and Poot-poot (salted fish) of Januza Coastal Farmers and Fisherfolks Association (LaJaCoFFA).

Mindanao-based papers dominate 2014 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards BusinessWeek Mindanao won as 2014 Best in Environmental Reporting
FOUR community newspapers in Mindanao won six out of 12 journalism awards given annually by the Philippine Press Institute, including the country’s Best Edited daily and weekly papers. BusinessWeek Mindanao won as this year’s Best in Environmental Reporting for its intensive reporting on environmental issues and the global effect of climate change. The Cagayan de Orobased business newspaper was also among the finalists in two other categories, namely: Best in Business and Economic Reporting,

HE Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is forging ahead with plans to develop its natural attractions for tourists despite the uncertainty surrounding the political arrangements under Bangsamoro.
Based on the data from the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), the region submitted three new projects to the agency for funding this year on top of the 14 projects that were submitted to the Tourism Industry and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) last year. This year’s proposals, with an estimated cost of at least P41 million, are all in the island province of Tawi-tawi. These include the road pavement and construction of a stairway leading to Mt. Bongao peak, the paving of the footbridge leading to Bolabok cave, and construction of a peace/PAGE 11
