BARMM biz registrations C O TA B AT O C i t y – Despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has approved a total of 4,740 business name registrations (BNRs) for the first quarter of this year. Records from the Bureau of Trade and Industry (BTI) under the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) of BARMM showed that the significant increase in BNRs this year is 300 percent higher compared to the 1,251 business registrations for the same period in 2020. “The BNRs from January to March this year had also generated some P423million investment cost and 10,109 employment during the period,” MTITBARMM Minister Abuamri Taddik said in a statement released Thursday.

ORONADAL City – An umbrella of Moro civic groups in the country pressed Congress anew to immediately approve the proposal extending for another three years the transition period in the Bangsamoro region, considering that time is almost running out before lawmakers adjourn their session.
At the same time, the One Bangsamoro Movement, Inc. (1Bangsa), which counts at least 60 Moro groups as members, pleaded President Rodrigo Duterte to certify as priority measure the bill extending the transition period in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), as his gift to Muslim Filipinos BANGSA/PAGE 7
Major expansion set for Mindanao fruit industry ABOUT 200,000 hectares of upland areas in Mindanao are being eyed for a largescale production of avocado and jackfruit, the Mindanao Development Aut horit y (M i n DA) sa id over t he weekend. “Over the next five years, MinDA will target 100,000 hectares for each of the two crops… and (generate) estimated earnings of $2 billion every year,” Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol said in a statement on Friday. “These two crops will be
introduced as agro-industrial commodities in commercial scale and volume, instead of just backyard fruit trees for family consumption.” The proposal is part of the Mindanao Greening Progra m, which aims to develop ag r icu lt u ra l industries while rehabilitating and protecting the highlands from denudation. GENERAL Santos City– Sarangani province’s top tourist destinations will be off-limits to non-residents starting Saturday, May 8, as it closes down its borders anew to non-essential travel until the end of the month due to the increasing COVID-19 cases. Sarangani Gov. Steve Chiongbian Solon directed the move through Executive Order (EO) No. 16 released on Wednesday night, which sets the implementation of stricter border control and other vital measures to mitigate the spread of the disease in the province. He said only essential travels
into the province will be allowed, with the movements limited to work-related purposes, accessing goods and services, seeking health care and other essential activities. The measure applies to land travel as well as sea transport via the Sarangani Bay and the Celebes Sea, he said. “ Tou r i sm e s t a bl i sh ment s/ facilities in Sarangani are closed (to) non-residents (until May 31),” the governor said.
