CDO’ infra projects SOME infrastructure projects undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cagayan de Oro have been completed. This is based on the monthly status report of various construction projects submitted by the DPWH-2nd District Engineering Office to the Office of City Mayor Oscar Moreno copy furnished to the City Council committee on public works. Shown in the report, as of February this year, the completed projects are the construction of Balubal National High School (NHS), Macasandig NHS and Agusan NHS.

State of economy THE National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Northern Mindanao gathered media practitioners and Regional Association of Government Communicators (RAGCOM) members to apprise them on the overall economic performance of the region 2015. Engr. Leon Dacanay Jr., NEDA regional director, said the forum is part of their regular activity to further improve the awareness of the general public about the economic situation of the region. Engr. Cecilio Y. Clarete, chief economic development specialist, said palay production posted 1.6 percent growth from 713,764 metric tons (MT) in 2014 to 725,120 MT in 2015 because of huge production during the last quarter of the year due to the seed and fertilizer subsidy program under the “plant now pay later” scheme.

HILE the effects El Niño-spawned dry spell would still be felt in succeeding months, the election season however could cushion their impact on the economy, the regional planning official said on Tuesday.

SMALL-scale farmers in Northern Mindanao continue to expand into value-added products as they recognize the need to diversify income sources. The farmers and agriculture officers of 16 local government units (LGUs) in the region took part in a two-day congress this week on Communitybased Participatory Action Research (CPAR).

DOE warns on danger posed by LPG-refilled butane canisters By ANTONIO L. COLINA IV, MindaNews

DAVAO City – The local office of the Department of Energy (DOE) warned retail stores here to stop selling and refilling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in empty butane canisters as these are highly flammable which might cause explosion and fire. The warning was issued a f t e r t h r e e m aj o r f i r e incidents broke out this month in Davao City that

were reportedly caused by illegal use of these LPGrefilled canisters. Engr. Nilo J. Geroche, chief of DOE 11’s Supervising Research Division, speaking during Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw, said these empty butane canisters are not intended to be refilled, most especially with LPG because these might explode if used excessively. danger/PAGE 7
