Lower rice yield PALAY production in Northern Mindanao went down in the fourth quarter of 2016 by 3.45 percent to 226,254 metric tons compared to the same period in 2015. A report released by the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) Wednesday stated that the movement of planting schedule due to inadequate and delayed release of irrigation water primarily contributed to the decreased yield in most of the provinces. As a result, rice sufficiency levels in the region dropped 5.6 percentage points lower than the sufficiency levels of the same quarter in 2015. This was estimated to sustain the region for only 54 days with its daily rice consumption requirement of around 28,160 bags.
