Briefly Subsidy for agri sector BUTUAN City – To cushion the impact of an oil price increase on the agriculture sector in the Caraga Region, a one-time P3,000 fuel subsidy will be given each to 3,802 corn farmers and fisherfolk in the area. “Of the 3,802 beneficiaries for the fuel subsidy, around 2,186 are fishermen while 1,616 are corn farmers,” Department of Agriculture – Caraga (DA-13) Director Ricardo Oñate Jr. said during a press conference Monday. Oñate said DA-13 and its attached agencies, such as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Caraga Region (BFAR-13), are also finalizing the list of names of beneficiaries for the subsidy program.

ENERAL Santos City -- The series of increases in fuel prices has started to take its toll on the tuna fishing industry here, with some operators reportedly considering suspending operations to avoid further losses.

Dominic Salazar, president of the Socsksargen Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries Inc. (SFFAII), said Tuesday that tuna fishing companies and other operators have been recording significant spikes in their operating costs due to the situation. Industry players had estimated that fuel costs, specifically diesel, take up about 60 percent of the total expenses of a regular fishing operation, depending on the distance HURTING INDUSTRY. Plastic waste problem worsens amid election season

BUTUAN City – The construction of the P325million Siargao Island Medical Center (SIMC) in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte is expected to begin anytime soon, an official said Monday. “The PHP325-million SIMC is a Level 2 hospital as stipulated in Republic Act (RA) 11500,” Surigao del Norte 1st District Rep. Francisco Jose Matugas II told the Philippine News Agency in an interview. R.A. 11500 got the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte on Nov. 13, 2020.

DAVAO City — Concerns over plastic waste pollution are mounting amid the election seaso as national and local candidates in the May 2022 elections invest heavily in non-biodegradable campaign materials like banners and tarpaulins, a Davao Citybased environmental group said.

Atty. Mark Peñalver, executive director of Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS), in a statement on Friday, called out politicians for posting their campaign materials in areas not designated as common posting areas, a recurring problem every

Mindanao progress DAVAO City — Ranking officials based in Mindanao have expressed hope that the next President of the country will continue to nurture the progress initiated by the Philippine Army on the island. In an interview on Monday with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), the Army's 10th Infantry Division (ID) commander, Maj. Gen. Nolasco Mempin, said whoever gets elected will earn the respect and trust of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Mempin added that the next Philippine leader must also support the AFP and its programs, including its further modernization.
