Maguindanao drought COTABATO City -- Farmers in Maguindanao have been suffering the brunt of a dry spell, complaining their farm lands are getting drier every day. Maguindanao, one of the five provinces of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), has not experienced rainfall the past three weeks with the sunlight giving excruciating heat. Mosa Saligan, a farmer in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, said they could not replant rice since the rice fields remained dry since last month. In fact, the Liguasan marshland was almost dry with the river bed exposed due to lack of water.

THE House C ommittee on Energ y exp e c ts t he Department of Energy to carry out their resolution stopping the electricity spot market in Mindanao “as soon as possible,” Representative Ru f u s R o d r i g u e z ( 2 n d district, Cagayan de Oro) said Saturday. “ We e x p e c t E n e r g y Secretary Petilla to carry out our resolution immediately as soon as he receives a copy from us,” Rodriguez said. “It was very clear that all of those who attended the public hearing were against the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market,” he added.
He said Petilla met with several members of the energy committee before Thursday’s public hearing and told them he has no objection if the IMEM will be suspended. Petilla, who was invited to the public hearing, was not able to attend. The House Committee on Energ y chaired by Rep.
