Green energy T WO PROGR AMS that combine agricultural and renewable energy development in off-grid areas of Mindanao were recently launched as part of the rural growth strategy for the southern Philippines. One project, the Integration of Productive Uses of Renewable Energy for Sustainable and Inclusive Energization in Mindanao (I-PURE Mindanao), will cover 10 pilot areas that are already agriculturally productive but lack power supply to expand. With 4.5 million euros (P264.91 million) worth of funding from the European Union (EU), I - PURE Mindanao will set up solarpowered facilities to run coffee dryers, ice-making machines, and irrigation systems in communities in the Bangsamoro and Soccsksargen regions.

Planetarium THE first planetarium facility in Mindanao that costs P50 million will be finished by August, according to the p r ov i n c i a l g ove r n m e nt of Misamis Oriental on Wednesday. L aw yer Cerilio Neil Pacana, the provincial legal officer, said the planetarium located in El Salvador City, was initiated by the Depar tment of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Ad ministration (DOSTPAGASA). "As projected, in the second or third week of August, the planetarium will finish its construction provided no hindrance will be encountered along the way of the construction such as calamity or work stoppage as ordered by the national government," he said.
