Briefly Dengue cases up THE Department of Health regional office of Northern Mindanao (DOH-10) has recorded a big increase in the number of dengue cases in the region from January 1 to June 11 this year. DOH-10 medical technologist Gemma Uy, in a media forum on Thursday, June 16, said the region has already recorded 3,844 cases, 134.25% higher than the number of cases recorded in the same period last year which saw 1,641 cases. Based on the data from the DOH-10’s Regional Epidemiology, Surveillance and Disaster Response Unit (RESDRU), the province of Bukidnon has the most number of cases this year with 1,322.

Samal bridge DAVAO City – The government has scheduled the groundbreaking of the long-awaited 3.98-kilometer Davao City-Samal Island Bridge project next month, July, Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said. Sadain said in Viber message that the groundbreaking was set after the approval of the $350-million (P18.67 billion) loan agreement between the Philippines and China last June 13. The entire project will cost P19.321 billion, mostly financed by the Chinese loan.

HE National Electrification Administration (NEA) is exploring means on how it can extend financial assistance to L anao del Sur Electric Cooperative (LASURECO), of which power supply had been set for disconnection due to its P12.9 billion worth of unpaid obligations with state-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management C orporation (PSALM).

In a recent meeting with LASURECO, NEA Administrator Emmanuel P. Juaneza indicated that he will apprise the agency’s board on the financial assistance being sought by the electric cooperative so it can continually serve its customers. There had been no specific detail on the amount and nature of financial assistance that NEA can bestow to the power utility and a timeframe has not been given also if this can still be resolved before the Duterte administration will bow out from office in the next two AID/PAGE 7
