Guru’s retention pushed T H E N o r t h e r n Mindanao Federation of Transport Cooperatives (Nomfedtrasco) has requested the Department of Transportation and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) central office to retain the current LTFRB director in region 10. In a statement on Saturday, July 1, the Nomfedtrasco acknowledged LTFRB-10 director Aminoden Guro, whose expertise can be very essential to fastening the implementation of Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) in the region. In a press briefing, Nomfedtrasco general manager Luzviminda Escobidal told reporters that Guro should be the one to finish the PUVMP as he was the one who started the program in Northern Mindanao region.
Lamitan airport ZAMBOANGA City – The city government of Lamitan is embarking on an ambitious airport project to boost its development as well as that of Basilan province. Mayor Roderick Furigay said Saturday they have started the acquisition of land in the area where the airport will be constructed. Furigay said the lots they have acquired are in the Barangays of Calugusan, Balas, Boahan, and Ubit, which were identified by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) as the ideal site for the airport.

Camiguin imposes ban on entry of pork meat

HE province of Camiguin has imposed a temporary ban on pork meat and by-products from outside the island after the Department of Agriculture-Northern Mindanao (DA10) confirmed cases of African swine fever (ASF).
The announcement of Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo released late Saturday likewise asked hog raisers not to engage in swill feeding or the feeding of food scraps and adopt appropriate biosecurity measures. "The public is likewise advised that the slaughter of pigs outside of the municipal slaughterhouses is a criminal offense punished under Republic Act 9296, otherwise known as the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines, as
amended by RA No. 10536," the announcement read. Under the said law, selling, transporting, and offering or receiving for sale or transportation in commerce of illegally slaughtered pork are criminal offenses. The Energ y Regulator y Commission (ERC) has reported an increase in the average rate offer in the electricity retail market space at P4.05 per kilowatt hour (kWh) as of April this year; from a leaner average of P3.63 per kWh weighted average as of its monitoring report in 2021. The electricity retail
market rate is for the so-called contestable customers, which refer to the segment of endusers that can already directly contract their electricity needs with their preferred retail electricity suppliers (RES) under the dictum of Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) policy of the restructured power sector. ERC said the number
of contestable customers already hovered at 1,897, accounting for total demand of 3,924.53 megawatts within the review period. This particular customer sector has current threshold of contestability at least 500 kilowatts (kW) of demand within a prescribed period under the RCOA rules. Red tide BUTUAN City – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has maintained its red tide alerts in two areas of the Caraga Region. In its latest shellfish bulletin, the BFAR said Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur and Litalit Bay in San Benito, Surigao del Norte remain positive for red tide. “Latest laboratory results indicated that shellfish collected in said areas still positive for Paralytic Shellfish Poison or toxic red tide that is beyond the regulatory limit,” the BFAR bulletin issued Thursday said.

Dengue outbreak declared in BARMM By FERDINANDH B. CABRERA, MindaNews
COTABATO City – The Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM) has declared a dengue outbreak after the mosquito-borne disease claimed 18 lives from January to June this year. Dr. Zul Qarneyn Abas, BARMM health minister, said there were only two deaths during the same period last year. As of June 30, Abas said, MOH-BARMM has recorded 928 dengue cases across the region. “ We s u r p a s s e d t h e a l e r t t h re s h ol d or t h e epidemiological threshold,” he said, adding the increase was almost three or four times
from last year’s 398 cases.` He noted that Lanao del Sur, Marawi City and Maguindanao registered the highest number of dengue cases. At the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center, the number of dengue cases was also alarming for health frontliners. CRMC chief Dr. Ishmael Dimaren said that as of Friday over 600 dengue cases had been admitted to the hospital, although many were already discharged. He said MOH-BARMM has donated a 100-bed isolation facility for dengue patients to address the rising number of cases. DENGUE/PAGE 7
