(MICTSI) yard in the PHIVIDEC Compound in Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental on Thursday, July 7. Scarce corn supply DAVAO City – The low supply of corn in the Davao Region has caused a plunge in chicken meat supply in the market as corn grains are considered a vital ingredient in poultry production, an official said Wednesday. “It is still due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia as these two countries are among the biggest suppliers of corn in the world trade. With a low supply of corn, our poultry feed manufacturers also find it hard to meet the necessary production level,” said Alex Sibuan, market specialist of the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11). DA-11 records showed that the inflation rate for corn here has increased to 17.9 percent in June 2022 compared to the 4.8 percent inflation rate of the food item in the same month last year.

DAVAO C it y – C a c a o production in the Davao Region has stagnated despite massive efforts to revitalize the industry amid the growing global demand for chocolates. level remains at 12,000 metric tons after years of attempts to double the yield. He said the region fell short of hitting its target due to various factors, including poor planting materials and failure to put in place a good monitoring system. “There have been massive plantings done in the past and the only problem was DEMAND/PAGE 11
