Miss U event not a holiday DAVAO City -- With a deluge of calls from the public regarding the possibility of a holiday on January 30 or the coronation day of Miss Universe 2017, the Palace said the day would remain a working day. Joey Sem Dalumpines, Information Officer III of the Philippine Information Agency Region-XI said he had received dozens of calls in the Davao regional office asking if January 30 has been declared as a holiday. The Philippine Information Agency offices in the regions receives official copies of proclamations on the declaration of holidays which are then disseminated to the public. Dalumpines advised the public not to believe reports of a Miss Universe holiday since there is no official proclamation.

Farming bills THE House of Representatives’ committee on food security has approved the creation of a technical working group (TWG) that will consolidate various bills seeking to institutionalize urban farming. During the hearing, Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva (2nd District, Negros Occidental), committee chairman, commended Reps. Estrellita Suansing (1st District, Nueva Ecija), Michael Odylon Romero (Party-list, 1-PACMAN), and Harlin Neil Abayon III (Partylist, AANGAT TAYO), authors of House Bills 2818, 4354, and 4422, respectively, for filing the measures that aim “to achieve self-sufficiency in food production and ensure social and economic access of our people to available nutritious food in urban areas”. Cueva said the bills are relevant and necessary since urban agriculture is a priority legislative agenda of the Department of Agriculture (DA) under the Duterte administration.

MAASIM, Sarangani – The power group of Alsons Consolidated Resources ,Inc. (ACR) is in talks with prospective multinational institutional investors for new partnership into the corporate vehicle of its 210-megawatt Sarangani coal-fired power plant. ACR Chairman Tomas I.

Alcantara told reporters that they jumpstarted negotiations with other parties following the decision of co-venturer Toyota Tsusho Corporation to just maintain its equity at the Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC) at the level of 25 percent. “We are in talks with other groups – both foreign

He indicated this in a media briefing prior to the formal inauguration of the first block of the group’s $570-million Sarangani coal-fired power plant.
