Agaton-hit govt workers to get emergency loans T

HE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will grant emergency loan to more than 48,000 members who either work or reside in areas devastated by tropical depression “Agaton” and declared under a state of calamity by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

BENEFICIARIES of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have all the reason to celebrate this year. This developed after the DSWD is set to implement the extension of the coverage of Pantawid Pamilya after the National Advisory Committee (NAC) of the program passed and approved NAC Resolution No. 12, Series of 2013. At present, the program provides health and education grants to children beneficiaries aged zero to 14 years old for a period of five years only. But with the implementation of the extension of coverage, the program will go beyond the five-year limit to cover up to high school education, extending coverage up to 18 years old in order to complement the K-to-12 program of the Department of Education.

These areas include the provinces of Agusan Del Norte (including Butuan City), Agusan Del Sur, Lanao Del Norte (including Iligan City), Surigao Del Norte and the municipalities of Kalong, Carmen, Asuncion, New Corella, and Tagum City in Davao Del Norte.

Members may apply for the loan beginning Jan. 24, 2014 until Feb. 22, 2014. They may apply either through any GSIS branch under its “file anywhere” policy or through the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) kiosks stationed loans/PAGE 6

Prices of fish up by 50-80% in Iligan City THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported Friday that prices of fish products in Iligan City which was affected by typhoon ‘Agaton’ increased by 50 to 80 percent. According to the DTI-Consumer Protection Group (DTI-CPG) Bulletin No.3 on typhoon ‘Agaton’, the surge in prices of fish was due to low supply of fish products after the typhoon damaged the Napro-Laparan bridge

which is a major link to Iligan City. ”Prices of fish shoot up to about 50 to 80 percent due to weather and transportation or handling cost caused by the damaged bridge,” DTI-CPG explained. Prices of vegetables also increased due to less harvest because of the weather disturbance. Prices in other products also Prices/PAGE 6

Irrigation project DAVAO City – The completion of an irrigation project in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, costing P12.5-million has improved the rice production of at least 320 farmers. The farmers attributed the increase in their yield with the adequate irrigation facility said Rolano Calisay, member and officer of the Badoma Irrigators Association with areas covering the villages of Barayong, Dolo, and Marber in Bansalan town. Calisay said that with the irrigation facility, harvest is up to eight tons of rice compared to the previous yield of 5.5 tons.
