Corn export FOR the first time in history, the Philippines is ready to export corn to neighboring countries in the region, as corn harvests this year are expected to breach the 5.6-million tons domestic requirement. In a statement, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said yellow and white corn harvest for 2017 can reach 8.1-million metric tons, the first time that the country will achieve a 120-percent corn sufficiency. He expects the approval and adoption of the SolarPowered Irrigation System boosting corn production this year.

RIVATE concessionaire firm National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has indicated that it is supporting the studies of its technical partner State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) on power lines interconnection within the Southeast Asian region, but its bigger concern is actually premised more on its cost impact to Filipino consumers. “We are supporting the conduct of such studies. But our concern is how much would it cost consumers, because if it’s too expensive, then we really have to consider

More contractual workers in R-10 became regulars in 2016

Coco processing plant STA. CRUZ, Davao del Sur -The Franklin Baker Company of the Philippines (FBCOP) inaugurated its new plant located in Barangay Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur last week. Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol and FBCOP President and COO Jerry Lorenzo graced the event. The new plant is the second for FBCOP in Mindanao, which has its first desiccated coconut plant erected in 1968 at Barangay Coronon, and the third plant in the Philippines. The other FBCOP plant is located in San Pablo, Laguna. Secretary Piñol said that about 600,000 hectares of new coconut farms will be established in a span of five years all throughout the country to enhance coconut production in support to cocobased industries.
