Briefly Davao earns P10.34B DAVAO City – The city government said it has fully achieved its revenue target for 2020 even amid the coronavirus disease 19 (Covid-19) pandemic. In a statement Thursday, the City Information Office quoted acting City Treasurer lawyer Lawrence Bantiding as saying that the city earned a total income of P10.34 billion from local taxes, service income, business income, economic enterprise, other income, and from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA). The amount exceeded the P9.6 billion income earned in 2019.

No-interest loan COTABATO City – Ninety-seven (97) marginalized, small farmers and fisherfolks (MSFF) from the 63 barangays in North Cotabato individually received P25,000.00 non-interest-bearing cash loan from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR). MAFAR Minister Dr. Mohammad S. Yacob led the loan distribution on Tuesday, January 12, in the Municipality of Carmen. He said the loan aims to help the beneficiaries recover from their loss brought about by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis. “Karamihan sa mga magsasaka ay nahihirapan sa kanilang pamumuhay dahil sa kawalan ng kita at capital upang muling makapagsaka. Ang programang ito ay isa sa nakikita nating makakatulong sa mga farmers and fisherfolk na naapektuhan ng pandemic,” said Yacob.

ITH plant shutdowns bringing power grids to breaking points again, the Department of Energy (DOE) nudged power plant owners to realign their maintenance activities to avoid brownouts during the summer months.

Energy Assistant Secretary Redentor E. Delola has called the attention of the generation companies (GenCos) on “a lot of plant outages in the past few weeks.” At this rate, Delola is not optimistic of a brownout-free summer season. “Considering the existing maintenance schedules of plants, we may have to realign our activities for the year to

ensure the level of sufficient supply,” he said, adding that some of the plant downtimes could stretch into the summer. The DOE does not see an e n c ou r ag i ng p owe r supply system, especially given forecasts of economic recovery this year. And for that, the DOE summoned the power firms this early so they can sort out BROWNOUTS/PAGE 6
