Agri-Pinoy MARAWI City -- The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DAFARMM) will provide assistance to 64,271 farmers and 866 agriculture groups during the first quarter of 2016 under its Agri-Pinoy Program. Alexander Alonto, DAFARMM Secretary, said the department has already lined up its programs and projects for the entire year to empower farmers and farming communities in the region. “We assure all the farmers na kung ano man ang nakalineup for 2016, we will try our best na ma-implement namin sa lahat para makatulong sa kanila,” Sec. THE National Food Authority (NFA) on Monday belied insinuations of “fake rice” being sold in the local public markets in Cagayan de Oro City. Victoria Duray, NFA assistant regional director, issued the statement to dispel scary reports of alleged “fake rice” being sold in the city’s major public markets here. “We sent a team to check immediately the rice last Friday after the NFA received the report that “fake rice” is

being peddled here,” Duray said. She said that the team brought samples and cook the rice at the NFA regional office to ascertain its genuineness. “We later found out that the rice was, actually, genuine.” Duray added. She said that the NFA reg iona l of f ice is now equipped with a laboratory to examine rice the genuineness of the rice, a staple food in the country. The report about the scary

presence of imported “fake rice” being sold in the local public here started sometime in August last year, Duray said. She said that all the samples sent to Manila for laboratory examination later turned out to be genuine. “The NFA did not find a single case of face rice being sold in the market here,” Duray said.
