Workers’ forum AS part of President Duterte’s mandate to provide stakeholders an avenue to participate in policy and decision-making processes, the Department of Labor and Employment-X conducted the Workers’ Forum in Cagayan de Oro City. Approximately 170 participants comprised of representatives from the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (RTIPC), Northern Mindanao Federation of Family Welfare Committees (NMFFWC), different labor organizations and federations, Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), and other concerned government agencies participated in the forum. In attendance was guest speaker Labor Undersecretary for Bureau of Labor Relations and Special Concerns Joel B. Maglunsod, who discussed labor-related issues particularly on the updates of ENDO (End of Contractualization).

Energy program THE Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) will discuss energy development efforts with China after they were invited for a visit, according to DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi. Cusi, in a statement, said the visit would provide an opportunity to discuss overall energy development efforts, g a in knowl e d g e fr o m b e s t practices and seek investments in local energy projects. Both nations were claiming the West Philippine Sea, which covers the Spratlys and other reefs, but the United Nations Arbitration Tribunal found that the Philippines has jurisdiction over the areas. The areas were found to have huge oil reserves.

EWLY-appointed chair of the Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Datu Abdul Khayr Alonto said the recent visit of Japanese Prime Miniter Shinzo Abe -- the first head of state to come to the country’s south since Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad in 1994 -- not only rekindles the historic ties between Davao City and Japan, but has brought Philippine-Japan relations to a deeper level based on a shared aspiration for Mindanao’s peace and progress.
