Briefly Career coaching TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental -- The Department of Labor and Employment Region 10 (DOLE10), through its Eastern Misamis Oriental Provincial Field Office (EMO PFO), in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagoloan conducted a Career and Employment Coaching Seminar to some 266 students of Tagoloan Community College on 11 November 2015, in Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental. DOLE-10 EMO PFO Head, Errol Natividad commended the support of Josephine C. Almuena, the school’s designated College Guidance and Counselor during the said activity. The advocacy concentrated on Labor Relations, Labor Market Information (LMI), and Career Coaching. “It is important that graduating students are well informed on the basic labor standards in preparation for work after graduation,” Natividad said.

Firecrackers ban ZAMBOANGA City -- The local government units (LGUs) in the region had been urged to ban the sale and use of firecrackers to ensure zero firecracker-related incidents in their respective localities. Dr. Joshua Brilliantes, Department of Health (DOH) assistant regional director, made the call as they team-up with the Department of Education (DepEd), police and fire bureau on its 2015 anti-firecracker campaign. Brilliantes said they will focus on encouraging the public to use alternative ways in welcoming the New Year to eliminate if not lessen firecracker-related injuries.

DOST’s science, tech fair highlights industry benefits to Mindanao

ALAYBALAY City — The P3.002trillion 2016 budget approved by President Benigno Aquino III is “loaded with pork and lump sum a p p r o p r i a t i o n s ”, budget watchdog Social Watch Philippines said on Friday.

Leonor Briones, lead convenor of the group, said “more than P930 Billion is in automatic appropriations; while Special Purpose Funds total PhP408 Billion and Unprogrammed Funds total P67.5 Billion.” She said the projects include farm-to-market roads “which are identified budget/PAGE 11

DAVAO City -- The year 2015 is not a good year for the banana industry as stakeholders hardly recovered from losses due to unresolved problems. Industry leaders even anticipate a carryover of the difficulties into 2016. This was expressed by Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association (PBGEA) executive director Stephen Antig, who said 2 0 1 6 c ou l d e ve n b e a bleak year for the banana

industry if problems continue unresolved. He mentioned Panama disease that continues to wreak havoc on the banana farms and it has never been contained even with the development of resistant variety of Cavendish banana. He said it has not been perfected as yet. He said if they can produce the disease resistant variety “we still have to find out if banana/PAGE 11

Familiarize with the new generation currency: BSP THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has advised the public to familiarize themselves with the New Generation Currency (NGC) to avoid becoming victims of counterfeiting especially this Yuletide season.
