Aid for orphans COTABATO City – A member of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliament has filed a bill before the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) to establish a regional system for accredited orphanages. The 80-member BTA is the interim lawmaking body of the BARMM. “This is to institutionalize support for the welfare of orphans in the Bangsamoro region,” said BTA–BARMM Member of Parliament (MP), Atty. Maisara Latiph, in a statement Thursday.
Anti-insurgency funds AN official of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) of the Philippine Army said on Saturday that the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) has identified 160 conflict-free villages across Northern Mindanao eligible for anti-insurgency projects in 2022. During an interview in the CORDS X podcast on Saturday night, Maj. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., 4ID commander, said efforts are underway to include the identified villages for project funding under the National Task Force (NTF)-ELCAC’s banner program, Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP). He assured that the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ support and commitment is unwavering.

THE Department of Labor and Employment in Northern Mindanao (DOLE-10) will be extending help to workers affected by Typhoon "Odette." DOLE-10 Director Albert Gutib said during a press forum Tuesday that qualified individuals will get assistance under the agency's "Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers" (TUPAD) program, which helps workers affected by calamities, typhoons, or man-made disasters. "Our affected workers due to the said typhoon will just have to go to our Public Employment Services Office or PESO, which are established at the local government units like in the city, municipality or province, and are handled by the PESO managers," he said.

ZAMBOANGA City – The local governments of the sister cities Davao and Zamboanga are the only two in Mindanao that made it to the country’s 10 richest cities, according to the Commission on Audit (COA). In its consolidated 2020 Annual Financial Report for the Local Government, COA said that Davao’s wealth was at P23.664 billion with current assets (CA) of P14.172 billion and non-current assets (NCA) of P9.493 billion while Zamboanga had total assets of P19.775 billion (CA P8.145
billion and NCA of P11.630 billion). Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco signed on behalf of their respective local governments a city sisterhood agreement on July 2021. The two lady mayors were the country’s representatives in the United States’ Visiting International Leaders Program in 2017. According to the COA report, the leading city assetswise is Quezon City, led by RICHEST/PAGE 11
