August is always a fun month for me. Why? B ecause it’s my birthday month! Not only that… It’s also the birthday month of my son, Dominic. I was born on August 17 and Dominic was born on August 25. We always celebrate our birthday party together with our family and friends. So this year, we celebrated it at home. I remember my husband, Elmer, asking me what I wanted for my birthday and I said, this year, I won’t be having a party. We’ ll just have pizza deliver y and just watch some movies at home because that’s
what I really wanted. As simple as that. But then, Dominic wanted a party so we just decided to go through with a party. I love hosting parties at home because when I’m in the mood, I get to have a nice table setting. I find so much joy in cooking, buying flowers, balloons, and so on. I usually buy my flowers outside the Cathedral here in CD O. I really go there and choose the flowers myself early in the morning despite of the heat of the Sun. I simply enjoy it. From choosing the balloon color combinations, to paper plates, to table cloths that I rent and so on. It’s so much fun! I always find joy even in simple things. That’s what life is all about. We ended up with five celebrations. One with our group of friends. I love this
group because the dads are all friends, the moms are all friends and the kids are all friends for many years already. We had a simple dinner at home and we ended past midnight. It was a relaxing night having good conversations while the kids were busy playing. Second, with my parents and relatives. It was a Sunday lunch at home and I put out my griller at the garden and grilled some rib-eye steaks, pork chops, shrimps, sweet corns and pineapples. It was fun as well as I don’t get to see them all the time. Third, Dominic celebrated it with his classmates. It was an afternoon party and I made a beautiful setup at the garden. Too bad the weather did not cooperate so I ended up transferring ever ything to our lanai. The

kids had so much fun because they played basketball, Playstation 4 and Nerf guns. Well, my favorite part was the La Favorita Ice Cream Cart (product of Cagayan de Oro City). The kids loved it as well. The Calda Pizza was also a hit. Fourth, on my birth date itself, Elmer and I watched a tagalog movie, The Love Affair. I had so much fun! I love watching tagalog movies, fyi. Hehehe. Then during dinner we had McDonald’s deliver y at home and watched some more movies. Lastly, at Dominic’s exact birth date, he was in school so when he came home for lunch we had Jollibee food and had Yellow Cab pizza deliver y for dinner. Then, we watched the new Walt Disney movie, Inside Out. Fun night as well. To those of you who haven’t seen the movie yet, it’s a must watch for the whole family and it is still showing in cinemas. For me, birthday celebrations are just reminders for us that we should be grateful for the life that has been given to us and the opportunity to experience and live it to the fullest. Life is supposed to be fun no matter what! It doesn’t have to be a big party. What matters most is that you celebrate it with the people you love and you celebrate it how you want it.
