Regional cooperation REGIONAL cooperation is vital in sustaining growth to achieve the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said Monday. “Despite the pandemic, (the) Asia-Pacific (region) has made steady progress in reaching the SDGs. While this is laudable, so much more needs to be done in realizing our vision of creating a change that is truly transformative in the lives of all. For the impact of economic growth to be lasting and profound, it must be built on the bedrock of sustainable development with the people, planet, and peace as its core. Critical to this will be our capacity to work together in partnership for the goals,” Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said. The Philippines participated in the 9th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) which was held from March 28 to 31, 2022.
WB backs Sulu projects THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is seeking the support of development partner World Bank to push several infrastructure projects for the sustainable growth of Sulu province in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). DPWH Undersecretary and “Build, Build, Build” chief implementer Emil K. Sadain said initial talks have been made with World Bank officials for financing investment on rehabilitation/upgrading and asset preservation of pavement condition to facilitate road accessibility improvements, and to help address the inadequacy of water supply in Sulu. Sadain, DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado’s focal person for BARMM infra projects, and Mr. Achim Fock, the Manila-based World Bank Operations Manager for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, on Friday visited the province for better cooperation and coordination with the provincial government and appropriate offices in the planning and design of various proposed projects.
Provincial hubs TAGUM City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has said it will put "provincial hubs" to address technical difficulties during the May 9 elections. During Saturday evening's podcast of the Cabinet Officers for Regional Development and Security-10 (CORDS-10), Comelec-10 Director Francisco Pobe said these hubs will enable technical personnel to immediately attend to possible concerns with regard to the operation of the Vote Counting Machines (VCMs). "We also established the National Technical Center in provincial hubs that will handle problems or troubleshoot defective machines," he said.

HILE all feasible contingency measures are being hammered out, the Department of Energy (DOE) cannot give full commitment that this year’s May 9 elections will not be spared from brownouts or power service interruptions.
Nevertheless, Energy Senior Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella stated that in instances that there will be power outages, distribution utilities (DUs) and electric cooperatives (ECs) have agreed to prioritize electricity service in polling areas. “We have to prioritize certain areas — because when we have issues on supply, we have to identify where the canvassing centers are; where the polling centers are, so those are the power lines that will be protected — that they shall not be included in the rotational outages – that’s the arrangement we have with the distribution utilities,” he stressed. When asked further on the energy department’s ELECTION/PAGE 11

Disenfranchised BDH patients hit PhilHealth, want to file case
BU T UA N C I T Y— Disenfranchised regular patients scored Philippine Health Insurance Corp.’s (Philhealth) for trying to suspend the accreditation of Butuan Doctors Hospital (BDH) , a move that would put their health benefits in serious jeopardy as they are considering to charge the country’s health insurer. BDH executives belied the claims by Philhealth that their hospital has submitted fictitious claims from patients saying these are unfounded and trumped-up charges have already groundswelled. Many other BDH patients,
although not impleaded in the charges, believed that their sad experience with PhilHealth could be tantamount to violation of their rights to
healthcare, notwithstanding their unwitting inclusion as unwilling witnesses to an incriminatory machination CASE/PAGE 10
