Briefly Corn Congress AS the city of Cagayan de Oro will be the host for the 10th National Corn Congress (NCC) which is tentatively scheduled on October 12-17, 2014, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office No. 10 (DA-10) has recently held a Preparation Meeting for the conduct of the said activity. The 10th NCC is expected to bring in 2,500 participants, consisting of corn farmers, DA officials, local government units (LGUs), private sector, the academe and other agricultural stakeholders to showcase various farm machinery, equipment and post-harvest facilities as well as share and discuss prevalent issues and concerns on the best corn farming practices and technologies. Engr. Roger Navarro, president of the Philippine Maize Federation, Inc. revealed that the six-day affair will focus more on corn farming mechanization through the conduct of exhibits, technology demonstrations, fora and technical reports, especially in light of the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic community integration.

Aviation upgrade THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has taken a notch higher after receiving a Category 1 status of civil aviation safety by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Laguindingan Airport Area Manager, Jose Budiongan said in a phone interview that “Category 1 means that we are no longer restricted and additional routes to the United States are granted. When we were in Category 2, we were restricted because we had a lot of safety issues and concerns.” He said that with Category 1 status, we are elevated and at par with developed countries in terms of compliance to the standard set by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Final draft of Bangsa law goes to Congress C

OTABATO City -- The Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) composed of representatives from the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has signed the final draft of the proposed law that will establish the Bangsamoro government in Mindanao, officials Monday said.

Milkfish in MisOr still safe for consumption, says BFAR MISAMIS Oriental -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Northern Mindanao said on Monday that the milkfish raised in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental is still safe for public consumption. The BFAR made the announcement to allay fears that the culture milkfish in the province’s marine culture park in Balingasag were affected by the harmful algal bloom (HAB) that caused “fish kill” at the start of the month of April this year.

The 95-hectare “Mariculture Park” in the coastal town of Balingasag in Misamis Oriental is the biggest supplier of milkfish in Northern Mindanao. In 2013, the annual total production of Bangus in Balingasag was 956.25 metric tons.
