Briefly Golden rice repeal FARMERS and stakeholders opposed on Monday the use of Golden Rice, a genetically modified variety of rice codeveloped by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). “[Genetically modified] crops such as Golden Rice contaminate local rice varieties, ultimately erasing the genetic traits and characteristics of our traditional and farmer-bred rice varieties,” said environmental biologist Dr. Charito P. Medina at a blended press briefing. “Years of effort spent to breed climate change–resilient varieties that are ecologically apt will go extinct in the blink of an eye,” he added.

DA-Field officer Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa assured the public that regional responses are in place, including the distribution of seedlings and indemnification, among others. “Natutuwa tayo sa ating regional field offices dahil sa kanilang maagang pagkilos. Gayundin, binisita ng ating mahal na pangulo ang Leyte at ganun din ang Capiz, at nakapagbigay tayo ng mga ayuda (We’re delighted about the prompt action of our regional field offices. Likewise, for the visitation of our beloved president in Leyte and Capiz, and the distribution of aid),” he said in the DA’s 186th virtual presser on Tuesday.

'ayuda' issue as false narrative By RENANTE G. SALCEDO
POLITICAL allies of Mayor Oscar S. Moreno in Cagayan de Oro took turns lambasting the local opposition’s false narrative that City Hall has failed to deliver assistance to people at the height of the Covid 19 pandemic. Vice Mayor Kikang Uy, who is running for congressman in the 1st district, said that
claims the city government failed to provide assistance to people during the pandemic has no basis as the local government is mandated to allocate five percent of its budget as disaster risk reduction management fund or what is popularly known as calamity fund and the City Council had approved
P500 million supplemental budget for Covid 19 response in 2020. First district Congressman Klarex Uy said that on the contrary, it is the incumbent officials of the local opposition that withheld distribution of food aid from the CSWD.
