Nuclear power AS a follow-through to Malacanang’s issuance of Executive Order (EO) 116, the Department of Energy (DOE) indicated that it will submit its crafted “nuclear power development plan” to President Rodrigo Duterte next month. “Our timeline is December — to submit it (nuclear plan) to the President, and we are hoping that he will approve it before the year ends,” Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said. The plan will flesh out the targeted nuclear power projects that will be integrated in the country’s energy mix – including the proposed deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs) in various parts of the country; and another component would be on the proposal to revive the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.
Cybet crime up CYBER threats increased during the earlier days of the community quarantine but these have been addressed by financial institutions’ tough stance against online crimes. In a virtual briefing Thursday, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin Diokno said cyber crimes like phishing and sending out malicious e-mails and links to malicious websites “with the spin on coronavirus disease” increased. Diokno said banks addressed these by launching targeted cybersecurity awareness campaigns to combat phishing and social engineering attacks.

RENEWED grants from the European Union (EU) worth 150 million euros (P8.5 billion) are expected to fasttract agricultural development and electricity projects for small island communities in Mindanao, the Department of Finance (DoF) said in a statement. The DoF said Thursday that Thomas Wiersing, the charge d’affaires of the EU Delegation to the Philippines, committed to the financial aid. Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III confirmed this development following a meeting with EU Delegation to the Philippines charge d' affaires Thomas Wiersing.
