ECONOMIC COOPERATION and trade meetings between the Philippines and the European Union (EU) are set to continue before year’s end, the EU delegation said. “We are happy to announce that these subcommittees will take place before the end of the year, obviously in virtual, remote (setting),” First Counsellor of the EU Delegation to the Philippines Rafael de Bustamante said. Under the EU-Philippines Partnership Cooperation Agreement, the two sides created three subcommittees: development cooperation, trade, investment and economic cooperation, and good governance, rule of law and human rights.
Agri ventures DAVAO City — The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) said it signed partnerships with six companies for various agriculture ventures that will showcase the economic potential of the autonomous region. Former Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) camps, which are undergoing transformation as part of the peace agreement with the government, are among the sites that will be developed as model farms and learning centers. “This is our share in the peace building efforts being led by the government,” Antonio S. Peralta, chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP)-Southern Mindanao Business Council in an online interview.

Business and tourism leader Joji Ilagan-Bian lamented in an interview Monday that the sporadic power supply in several areas in Mindanao has been a perennial problem to various industries. “For an economy to continue to develop and grow, it’s essential to have a very stable power supply. This fuels our economy, particularly the industrial and manufacturing sectors. A country's GDP (gross domestic product) is also affected by the stability of
its power supply,” said Bian, a former chairperson of the Mindanao Business Council.
