PEI switches on 5MW power plant in Agusan Volume III, No. 160

AN Francisco, Agusan del Sur - Peakpower San Francisco Inc. (PSFI) has inaugurated Monday a five-megawatt (MW) Bunker-Fired Power Plant to supplement the power needed by Agusan del Sur, through the Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. The 5MW Bunker-Fired Power Plant is situated inside the Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ASELCO) Compound at San Isidro, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. Peakpower San Francisco Inc. (PSFI) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Peakpower Energy Inc. (PEI), which operates under the auspices of A Brown Company.

In May 2013, Peakpower Energy Inc. signed Power Purchase Transfer Agreement (PPTA) with Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ASELCO).

Both parties agreed on the installation and operation by Peakpower of a complete and fully operational 5MW bunker-fired power plant within ASELCO’s fran-

Castro said the completion of the bunker power plant is timely for the power requirement of the two big establishments that are being put up in San Francisco by Gaisano, which need 5 to 6 MW. Joel Jumonong, former president of ASELCO and on whose term the plant facility has been constructed, said the construction of the plant took less than a year starting from May 2014.

Jumonong, who inspected the engine at Vaasa, Finland, last February 25, said the engine can run 24/7 using the Wartsila technology.

EAGA adopts socio-cultural and education pillar

DAVAO City - In recognizing the crucial roles of socio-cultural links and education in the promotion of greater understanding among diverse communities, the signing ministers of BIMP-EAGA recently agreed to explore socio-cultural and education as among the strategic pillars of the ASEAN sub-region.

During the 18th BIMP-EAGA Ministerial Meeting held recently in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, signing ministers from the sub-region stressed that socio-cultural activities can contribute to building strong foundation for greater understanding, good neighborliness, and a shared sense of responsibility.

BIMP-EAGA stands for Brunei Darussalam Indonesia Malaysia the Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area. The initiative was launched in 1994 as a key strategy to accelerate social and economic development of less developed areas in participating countries.

“Recognizing the important role of education in contributing to the establishment of an ASEAN Community that is people-centered and socially responsible, we agree to explore and promote cooperation among the higher learning institutions in developing academic and professional human resource in the sub-region,” the ministers said in a joint statement that was released after the meeting.

The proposed socio-cultural and education pillar will become the fifth pillar of BIMP-EAGA with tourism, agribusiness, connectivity, and environment being the other four pillars of the sub-region. The Philippine delegation, headed by Mindanao Development Chair Luwalhati Antonino proposed the inclusion of the new pillar during the 18th Ministerial Meeting.

“This pillar is founded on the fact that BIMP-EAGA is a sub-regional family kept cohesive and firmly bonded by historical ties and geographic closeness,” said Antonino while adding “the crosscutting facets of socio-cultural sharing forms the core for greater understanding.”

She said that the inclusion of education in this pillar underscores the importance of promoting knowledge sharing among students, young professionals, and faculty, as well skills improvement of workers within the sub-region.

A presentation of the top priorities of the new pillar will be done in April next year during the proposed BIMP-EAGA Leaders’ Summit in Malaysia.

Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng said the move to create the new pillar puts great emphasis on the human aspect of the sub-regional grouping.

“This is in line with the ASEAN’s goal to become more people-centered, and demonstrates how BIMPEAGA can look into cooperation that involves the youth,” he added.

The new pillar also aims to explore and promote cooperation among higher learning institutions in developing academic and professional human resource in the sub-region.

Antonino said the past several and ongoing BIMPEAGA socio-cultural activities range from sports competitions, food festivals, student exchanges and Boy Scouts jamboree are all aimed at strengthening the growth area’s historical and cultural ties.

During the recently-concluded 2nd BIMP-EAGA and IMT-GT Trade Fair and Business Leaders’ Conference here in the city, a side event on technical vocational education and training was conducted to intensify exchange of skills and human resources between Mindanao and its counterparts in the subregion.

A partnership was also forged between the Palawan State University (PSU) – Philippines and Jesselton College – Kota Kinabalo in July this year to facilitate workplace industry placement and education programme exchanges between the neighboring states.

On December 3, a 122 Philippine contingent of young athletes and coaches from Mindanao and Palawan left for Labuan, Malaysia to participate in the 8th BIMP-EAGA Friendship games. The Philippine participation aims to strengthen cross-border links through sports with EAGA-member countries.

“We pushed for this pillar as our resolve to work towards people-oriented goals, and to form a sociallyresponsible EAGA community that will harness the human dimension of the sub-region,” said Antonino.

Unfaithfulness, negligence, timidity, addictions, and even the good stuffs—it all starts in the mind. Whether it’s a minor or major decision, it passed through our mind. We think a lot and how we think will reflect on how we react.

Our mind is the battleground. Like what I’ve said in my previous blogs, you can never win in life with a defeated mind. So we should be very careful on how and what we feed our minds.

What is mental toughness by the way? “Mental toughness” is keeping strong in the face of adversity. It’s the ability to keep your focus and determination despite the difficulties you encounter. It is the voice at the back of your mind that tells you to keep going, keep pushing, and keep trying, even when the going gets tough.

Developing your mental toughness can help you be more emotionally resilient; push you to go further and

harder, and build armor to persevere against the bullets that life fires your way.

As you prepare for mental toughness, think of these things: Think about possibilities rather than impossibilities.

When you start thinking and believing that it may be possible, then automatically it becomes possible. Then, you will start to make the impossible very possible just by believing that it’s a possibility.

Don’t let the impossibilities hinder you from benefiting the possibilities. Make the impossible possible!

Think about the solution rather than the problem.

After thinking more of the possibility and making the impossible possible, then you’ll surely focus on the solution and not on the problem. Focusing on a problem will not help you to get rid of it, but will affect your motivation negatively. When we magnify our problems by focusing on it more, we just attract more of it.

Problems are inevitable.

You’ll encounter different kinds of those, but the good news is God will not give us a problem that is beyond our capability.

MisOr recaptures 2014 regional campus journalism contest title

nce again, the schools division of Misamis Oriental has emerged as Northern Mindanao's overall champion in the Regional Schools Press Conference, Department of Education's annual journalistic competitions.

DepEd 10 regional campus journalism coordinator Mala Epra B. Magnaong announced this during the awarding ceremonies at Mambajao Central School, Camiguin on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014.

MisOr schools division superintendent Cherry Mae Limbaco said this year's performance is "best compared to previous years" but admitted regional winners "need to improve" in some journalistic areas to be competitive in the National Schools Press Conference in April next year.

The last time MisOr division bagged the overall title was in 2009 during the RSPC in Clarin, Misamis Occidental.

2014 RSPC results show MisOr schools division has 20 NSPC qualifiers and 13 other winners in elementary and secondary levels, both English and Filipino, and her seven-member radio broadcasting team in Filipino in the elementary level.

Meanwhile, the schools division of Bukidnon took the first runner-up slot while three-time regional champion schools division of Camiguin settled for the second runner-up.

Bukidnon schools division produced 14 NSPC

qualifiers and 11 winners while Camiguin has 27-21 of them in collaborative publishing--and 17 other winners.

Ozamiz and Cagayan de Oro city schools divisions took the third and fourth runner-up trophies, overall.

Northern Mindanao is composed of 14 schools divisions which include El Salvador, Gingoog, Iligan, Lanao del Norte, Malaybalay, Misamis Occidental, Oroquieta, Tangub and Valencia.

Based on DepEd guidelines, the top three winners in individual categories and the champion in group competitions will officially be the region's representatives in NSPC. Competitions, both in English and Filipino, which started at the division level for elementary and secondary levels, were on writing editorial, news, feature, science and health, sports, copyreading and headline writing, editorial cartooning and photojournalism.

In seven-member group contests, these are on collaborative publishing and radio broadcasting.

Annual journalistic competitions in public and private schools is in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act No. 7079 which is the Campus Journalism Act of 1991.

Expat musician to hold show at SM

AMERICAN rapper Getto White is set to hold a show at SM City Cagayan de Oro this December 12.

Born as Monte Luttrell, Getto White was raised in his hometown of Los Angeles where he played music and did penitentiary in between.

But after he was rehabilitated, Getto White built a solid rap career in the West Coast and ultimately settled down in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines for the past decade.

Getto White loves CDO so much that he has released an album here in 2010 which has ten original tracks – Beauty I’m Your Beast, Time Heals the Pain, Asian Girl, Angel from Above, Sara, Can’t Be Just Friends, Won’t Get to Heaven, Pretty Girl and Cagayan.

For Getto White is fascinated with Pinoy culture as he consider himself as a Filipino. The 63-year-old rapper used to be a real gangster in

his youth and even up to his midlife. He has spent 17 years in federal prison but emerged fresh from an intensive 60-day therapeutic program.

“But that was a thing of the past. Now I’m trying to help talented Kagay-anons shine. I hope to sharemy music with them,” he said.

From then on, his life has remained uphill and concentrated on music, initially in Los Angeles and now in Cagayan de Oro. This Friday afternoon, you will hear Getto White’s unique music with the able backup of The Black Notes. The concert is being co-sponsored
