Adding Lift Springs or a Lift Kit to your vehicle does not only affect its height Depending on the level of performance you may pursue, it can be a benefit or a negative. While affecting your vehicle's center of gravity, a lift can degrade its handling on the road. Handling and braking are two of the most important considerations when investigating this type of upgrade. A higher center of gravity increases the chance of a rollover or collision accident. Raising the height of any vehicle also raises the height of the frame rail and secondary energy absorbing structure Other issues including increased wear and tear, and fuel economy should be considered before lifting and enhancing whatever performance you wish to achieve Consulting with experts to determine the most appropriate modification of height, suspension, and to stabilize handling will provide years of safe, enhanced motoring With knowledge and expertise, your vehicle can be transformed appropriately with quality aftermarket parts
A number of manufacturers including Eibach and RalliTek provide Subaru WRX owners with a selection of Lift Spring Kits, as well as additional suspension parts specifically designed for their platform, to prepare for the additional demands placed on the vehicle One product that deserves a valuable mention is Eibach's Pro-Lift Springs, another well-engineered 1 5" heightening upgrade to provide your 2022 WRX with both an increase in ground and fender clearance, robust stability, and handling in on and off road conditions RalliTEK offers their RallyX Spring Kit which allows heightening of your late model WRX at an additional 1 5" Along with some significant lift, the RalliTek solution features several advantages including increased handling response, increased approach and departure angles, and improved performance in extreme conditions all while delivering factory ride quality and more load capacity.
When investigating a Lift Kit option, it is important to note that instead of just replacing the springs on the vehicle to obtain a more desirable height, this upgrade is true to the “kit” in its name A full lift kit modification will typically include additional components to correctly align suspension arms or add space to the top of the struts to maintain factory suspension travel while effectively rising to the desired height Aftermarket lift kits are readily available from a selection of premiere providers including RalliTek, Cobb, and LP Aventure Drivers who may be considering a lift between 1" and 1.5" on their 2022-2024 WRX, should investigate both the RalliTEK 1" Ez-Install, or the COBB 1.5 Inch lift kits. Enthusiasts looking to heighten a full 2" can select either the 2" Bare or Powder Coated options from LP Aventure. Considering these solutions in tandem with Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel-drive system should give any WRX owner a good reference point for a lift upgrade, but there are more choices to consider if they wish to change direction and take the lower approach Fortunately, they have a few additional options
Choosing the more affordable option of installing Lift Springs for a modification would both address the drivers need for only a small amount of lift and provide improved ride quality in comparison to springs that may have become worn or damaged. Lift Springs are also sufficient for minimum and or mild off-road performance but would not be as substantial in extreme, more challenging conditions. A Lift Kit is a more robust modification requiring a larger investment since various components including replacement shocks, control arms, and brackets are included to appropriately adjust height, provide the driver with significantly more ground clearance, maintain suspension geometry to ensure proper handling under demanding circumstances, and allow the driver to install larger wheels and tires to assist the vehicle in conquering serious off-road scenarios in turn protecting the vehicle's undercarriage from road debris and challenging terrain
there are a number of points to consider when deciding to lower your vehicle and installing either Lowering Springs or Coilovers There are pros and cons behind both solutions which need to be carefully examined before a modification is attempted
Installing Lowering Springs is a great choice if you wish to lower the vehicle by just replacing the springs and keeping all of the components within the vehicle's stock suspension system, but it leaves little flexibility to make dramatic adjustments to the overall configuration At this point you will have the option of installing adjustable shock absorbers to manipulate the softness or firmness of the ride by resetting the component itself
Installing Coilovers will prove to be your most flexible choice if you require a multifaceted performance profile A quality coilover system will allow the vehicle's height and stance to be specifically tuned to provide efficient weight distribution while improving the vehicle's handling and stability under assorted performance scenarios
Several manufacturers including Eibach, Cobb, Whiteline, H&R, RS-R, and ISC provide quality solutions if Lowering Springs for your Subaru WRX is your preference. Whether you are looking to meet the extreme requirements of high performance, stabilize and enhance your overall cornering ability, or just gain a more aggressive athletic, powerful looking stance, these companies can provide the boost for your build. Eibach's Lowering Spring Kit provides both a stylish and aggressive visual profile while delivering high performance handling, a lower center of gravity, and faster cornering. COBB, Whiteline, and H&R offer systems that can also bring your WRX to another level of performance which feature decreased body sway, stabilized cornering, and enhanced steadiness to only name a few The COBB Front and Rear system, or Lowering Spring Kits from Whiteline, H&R, and also RS-R, and ISC could be perfect candidates for a suspension modification on your later model WRX
Lowering Springs would be the logical choice if the driver needs to decrease the vehicle's ride height without introducing additional cost and another level of complexity to the modification Lowering springs typically lowers the vehicle by a fixed amount and may be primarily aimed at the aesthetics and posture of the vehicle A replacement of the springs is more affordable and less involved than installing a full Coilover system
In comparison, Coilovers give the driver maximum adjustability, an attractive benefit which allows the enthusiast to precisely adjust the ride height They allow the driver to manipulate the damping control through incorporated adjustable shock absorbers which provides the ability to change the suspension's firmness in detailed increments to match driving style and surface challenges Coilovers also help the driver gain a sharper focus on handling performance which delivers more accurate cornering and detailed control
If installing Coilovers is the best way to serve your needs, there is a long list of premiere providers that have the solution BC Racing provides hundreds of suspension kit options including DS and BR Series Coilovers along with a BR Extreme Low option HKS also offers a number of quality solutions, specifically their HKS Hipermax S Coilovers to greatly serve owners of WRX GT late model years. Premiere manufacturers including Revel, ISC, and FEAL should also be considered for this upgrade since they provide some of today’s most popular iconic performance solutions including Revel's Touring Sports Damper Coilover Kit with Coilover Covers, ISC's N1 V2 Coilovers with Triple S Spring Upgrade, and FEAL Suspension's 441 Series Coilover Upgrade including High Flow Precision Dampening and Radial Bearings The FactionFab F-Spec, V2 FL-Spec, and V2 FR-Spec product, Pedders eXtreme XA, Ohlins’ Road & Track product with DFV Tech, and the Spec Street Series from IAG are proven, quality engineered Coilover Systems designed for a late model WRX that will dial into the exact performance level you need

Did you make it out to the SMF Track Days Subaru Edition at Thompson Motor Speedway? There were so many cool Subarus on track, and it was an absolute blast to be out there with them! One question I kept hearing from many of you was, "How can I get on track too?" Others explained why they felt their cars weren’t ready for HPDE. I’m here to set the record straight it’s actually much easier than you think! Here are the five things you need to get your Subaru on track for HPDE.
As we go through this list, keep in mind that these points are not ranked in order of importance Each one is essential for getting you prepared to hit the track and have the most fun possible! To clarify, this guide is specifically for HPDE (High-Performance Driving Education), also known as Track Days not Time Attack or racing We’ll cover those topics in another article Let’s walk before we run and hit the track!
Brakes are something I cannot stress enough (and I have a feeling I’ll say this about every point on the list). You’ll need to upgrade your brake lines, fluid, pads, and rotors. There’s a significant difference in how much heat daily driving stock brakes and track brakes can handle. Luckily, there’s a great inbetween option that’s perfect for those who drive their car to and from the track on weekends while still commuting during the week
If you browse the Subimods website, you’ll find a “complete brake kits” section If I had to start over, this is exactly what I’d go for These kits save money and simplify the process, offering everything you need in one package Stoptech, for example, offers a kit with rotors, pads, and lines everything you need except for the fluid These kits are perfect for daily driving and weekend track events. Don’t get caught up in needing a big brake kit just yet that’s something to consider when you start getting competitive. For fluid, it’s critical to use fresh brake fluid to prevent boiling in brake zones, which is definitely not a good time! A fresh DOT 3 or higher fluid, such as Motul RBF 600, is an excellent starter choice.
Tires often get overlooked when people start with HPDE, but they’re absolutely crucial. Tires are what give you grip for braking, accelerating, and cornering so having the right ones is essential It’s recommended to start with a good streetperformance tire, such as something with a treadwear rating between 340 and 200 (often labeled as “ultra-high-performance summer tires”)
Avoid using stock tires, especially if they’re 500 treadwear, as they won’t hold up well on the track. Trust me, I’ve learned this the hard way, quickly destroying them and hoping to make it home afterward!
Make sure your tires are in good condition, with no less than 3/32” of tread depth, no cracking or dry rot, and no older than five years Proper tire pressure is also crucial for track conditions, so check the manufacturer’s recommendations Lastly, rotate your tires regularly and monitor wear to get the most life out of them since tires can be expensive
As Subaru owners, we know that oil starvation can be a weak point under high G-forces
To minimize the risk of issues, it’s recommended to use the correct oil, a baffled oil pan, an upgraded oil pickup, and an air-oil separator (AOS)
Choose the correct oil for your engine If your motor isn’t built, you’ll likely use 5W-30 or 5W-40 Popular brands like Motul and Liqui Moly hold up well to track use Be sure to change your oil before and after each event to maintain performance and check for any potential issues
A baffled oil pan helps prevent starvation during highG turns. A larger oil pan can also aid in keeping the oil cooler. Killer B offers excellent kits with a larger baffled oil pan and a reliable oil pickup, which I’ve found to be dependable at tracks like Road Atlanta.
An AOS (Air-Oil Separator) helps separate oil vapors from the air recirculated into the engine, preventing harmful oil buildup in the intake Unlike a catch can, which requires manual draining, an AOS automatically returns clean oil to the engine Companies like Crawford, Perrin, and COBB make reliable AOS options to fit different budgets and needs
Even though HPDE isn’t racing, safety is critical. Fire doesn’t discriminate it doesn’t care if it’s a Sunday drive, HPDE, or an IMSA race. At a minimum, you should have a fire extinguisher, a helmet, and proper harnesses/seats. While not required, a race suit, Nomex gloves, and shoes add an extra layer of protection.
For fire extinguishers, consider options like a floormounted fire bottle or a compact Element E50 fire stick Ensure it’s easily accessible and practice reaching for it with your eyes closed to build muscle memory
Helmets are straightforward: make sure they fit properly and have a current Snell SA certification. For harnesses and seats, only use a harness if you have a proper racing seat and roll cage/bar installed. A 5-point or 6-point harness is required; 4-point harnesses are unsafe and typically not allowed.
Lastly, if you’re using a proper harness, it’s a good idea to invest in a HANS (Head and Neck Support) device to protect yourself in case of a crash
Fun cars make life more enjoyable, and so does having a positive attitude! HPDE isn’t about winning or getting signed as a professional driver it’s about learning Focus on understanding flags, rules, racing lines, driving at the limit, and recognizing understeer and oversteer
Find a good mentor, enjoy the process, and embrace the journey of HPDE Have fun, be one with your car, and remember: it’s about the experience, not the lap times!

As you can imagine, the list of the parts, components, and upgrades Evan Polin used to modify his 1998 Subaru Impreza WRC Custom is substantial.
"100% of this build was modified by me, from the bodywork, paint to the wiring - full swap.", Polin proudly explains. With that inspiration, let’s take a more detailed look at the parts and work behind his modification project.
An impressive looking car deserves a well-built power plant. Evan’s aligned belief is proven through his choices. The EJ207 V7 Short Block including HKS pistons and pauter rods were assembled by Polin in his living room The build continued with 22b STI big port heads, 272 billet cams with full GSC valve train/beehive springs, along with polished valves and guides upgraded by California’s Outfront Motorsport. He moved forward with installing a Tomei Header/Up-pipe, a 38mm Tial wastegate, Injector Dynamics 1300cc injectors, a 525LPH fuel pump, a Spec-C long runner intake manifold, a Forced Performance Green Turbo with an advanced port, a Cobb Electronic Boost Control, a Spearco Top Mount Intercooler, and a Haltech Elite 2500 Electronic Control Unit which was professionally tuned by Jay Perry in Tiverton, Rhode Island.
Evan estimated spending over 700 Hours of work on the body alone to bring this car from an upgraded classic to an inspiration. He incorporated a 50mm S5 WRC Paneling kit and custom Front and Rear Tubs to accommodate the wider paneling, and an added, custom built, OEM style, fuel door/filler neck piece - an item not included on WRC cars. A custom skirt was molded to the body's quarter panel and sill along with applying an imported/custom created S6/P2000 Rear spoiler (by Yuiry, aka ‘Antonenko555’) and S5 WRC Vents (by Trey, aka ‘Bakemono’). The exterior profile was further enhanced by the addition of WRC Style Carbon Fiber Mirrors and stunning Type 2013C, 18x8, 5x100, ET11.6 Wheels imported from Speedline Corse to add another degree of heat and personality. Evan also injected quality style into the interior by adding GD STI Seats, 22B STI Door Sill Trims, JDM GC8 Nardi Steering Wheel, and a JDM GC8 STI Gauge cluster.
Obviously with the quality choices of upgrades previously named, Polin pushed the car to meet his new level of engine performance. His improvements to the drivetrain include the addition of a JDM Version 9 STI Spec-C DCCD 6 Speed Transmission along with a R180 Differential and JDM STI 5x100 Hubs to allow him to run his speedlines. Attention to his engine and drivetrain with improved response most naturally call for support upgrades in the suspension and subframes, so Polin upgraded to a 2016 STI Steering Rack, new Suspension Coilovers from Feal Racing, installed 2004 Aluminum STI Front Control arms, along with a Front Sway bar, Sway bar links and Rear Adjustable lateral links from Whiteline to successfully round out this portion of the modification.

What are the most important factors to consider when choosing the right location for a car shoot?
Your first step is choosing a location that fits the energy of your vehicle. Secondly, choosing your time and weather can affect the vibe that you are trying to portray. Personally, Some of my favorite shoots with vehicles have been “out of place” as these images draw you to look at the vehicle you are shooting Don't be afraid to try shooting your vehicle at various angles to find the one that appeals the most to you!
How can I use lighting to enhance the details and lines of my car?
Shooting during specific lighting conditions such as golden hour provides soft, warm light that enhances the lines of your car without all of the harsh shadows commonly found midday Position your car so that the light casts across the body surfaces to emphasize body lines and contours
How can I best highlight specific details, like wheels, spoilers, or interior features, in my photos?
Getting close up and using a macro or portrait lens will offer you the punch of sharpness those little details need Frame your specific details creatively, remember, there is no correct answer to creative freedom!
What angles or perspectives work best to make a car look good?
Shooting your car from a low angle can offer a sense of power to an image, oftentimes looking more aggressive as you are looking “up” to the car. Typically a front or rear three-quarter shot gives your shot a dynamic and balanced look within the image. Experimenting with different framing and focal lengths is a great way to find your car’s best angles.
Using a wide aperture (f/2 8 or lower) to blur the background and or using a portrait mode on your cellphone can net you the most dramatic changes in your images.

As enthusiasts, we reach a moment when investing in a set of aftermarket wheels becomes a priority - not only to feed the need for additional style, but also to improve performance and stability. There are a few important details to discuss when selecting wheels for your vehicle which include:
The distance from the center of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel hub This directly determines the overall position of the wheel in relation to the fender, and the suspension assembly
Considering Desired Sizing for the Vehicle’s Tire Size:
In most cases, tire size is recommended to increase as the width of the wheel increases. Tire size will directly relate to the fender clearance at ride height, as well as the turn radius.
When changing the width and offset of our wheel specs, we need to think about how this is going to affect both the fender side, and suspension side of the vehicle Additional width with the same offset as the previous wheel set is simply divided in half for the inner and outer. After we have calculated this, we can then add (or subtract) offset accordingly.
Considering Desired Sizing for the Vehicle’s Ride Height:
When a vehicle is lower than stock, it may increase the difficulty to fit wheels that are wider than stock, or have a lower offset. A lowered vehicle may require a wider or lower offset wheel for a flush fitment, but a higher ride height may result in the same wheel extending outside the fenders
Considering Desired Sizing for the Vehicle’s Alignment:
Subaru factory adjustment points allow approximately one degree in either direction A lower offset and wider wheel may require aftermarket suspension arms for proper alignment ranges Camber, caster, and toe directly impacts the location of the wheel when it is installed on a vehicle, and these values may help or harm the amount of tire / wheel clearance of your vehicle.
