This season’s edition of STYLE STATEMENT MAGAZINE celebrates WOMEN across many journeys from our own Jalene Mack and her many roles' attorney, actress, and philanthropist. WAYS TO HELP YOUR CURLS AND COILS SPRING FORWARD I hate winter. True, the clothes are cute and cover a multitude of sins.

But since I hate being cold more, they don’t fix winter. My hair hates cold too. It spends the season cooped up in a protective style trying not to break. All the cute hats in the world do not cheer up my mane.

And I can’t wear most of them because wool (and even some acrylic yarns) causes too much friction snapping my coils. But the first rays of sun in March and the fever hits me. I bloom early like the daffodils.

Now there is research to confirm what I have believed all along. Hair DOES grow faster when it is warm. The warmer weather boosts the supply of nutrients needed for keratin production.

As the production of this protein is increased, your locks grow faster.

“Hair tends to grow a little faster in summer and slower in winter,” said Dr. Alan Parks, board certified dermatologist and founder of DermWarehouse.

So if you are on a growth journey with your natural crown, here are a few ways to make the most of your hairs warmer weather growth spirit. If you know your hair texture and porosity, you can tailor a treatment that puts that warmer weather to good use. I have a video that explains what that means on YouTube. But here are a few general things you can do to push your growth when your body is ready.

Walking on sunshine. Your body naturally increases Vitamin D production in the sun, and this is good for your hair too. A walk on a sunny day will also increase your overall circulation. Try yoga in a sunny spot that involves inversion. The act of bending at the waist and letting the blood flow to your scalp will boost your hair growth.

In the spring, it feels so great to let the breeze tease my locks. Give your hair a break from protective styling with a wash and go. You can use a leave in conditioner and a lightweight gel on rods to give a stretched curly look. Let the warm air dry your hair damage free. A lovely cotton sundress is perfect spring attire that will not dehydrate you curls.

Let it b Boosting your intake of b vitamins is good for your hair. Two great b’s to try, biotin and Inositol. Both are available in food. For biotin, eat more eggs. Eggs are packed with hair loving nutrients. And for Inositol, mix a batch of tricked out rice water. This has been used for a thousand years by the Yao women in China. You can watch my YouTube video on how to make it smell great and work better.

While you are attempting a spring-cleaning of your home, try a deep cleaning of your scalp too. I love deep cleansing clay clarifiers to unclog my follicles and give my hair room to grow. I live by Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. I mix it with rhassoul clay from Morocco and wipe it like peanut butter from the crown of my head to the sole of my foot.

Then I wash it away in a milk bath. A gallon of whole milk and sea salt in my tub soaks away all the cares of the world, and leaves my hair and skin deeply cleansed.

Gather garden gifts In the spring, there are so many fresh botanicals available that can work nothing short of miracles on your hair. And you don’t need a big garden. A few pots filled with Aloe Vera, lavender and rosemary or mint can grow all summer and make your hair grown faster and healthier. There are studies that validate what I am saying. You can look it up or trust me. Also, you can make fresh rose water. It is easy to make. I have a video on my channel that shows you how. In the spring, I spray that “stuff” on everything. My whole world smells like a fresh bouquet.

Catch the fever Let spring fever lift you. Happiness is healthy. And getting the stress out is great for your whole being, even your hair.

You would be surprise how much tension can linger in the little muscles of your scalp. And we have all been under too much stress. Pamper your tresses with a deep conditioner and a scalp massage. TGIN’s Honey Miracle Mask is a great one to try.

Educational lifeline for medically fragile and chronically Ill children.

Proceeds from the sale of this magazine benefit medically fragile children.

The goals that I have considered for my medically fragile daughter is the same for my daughter without medical frailty. However, many materials and resources need to increase. Make sure all the adaptable devices she needs for her education, as well as, her educational plans are in order.

Changes need to happen regarding Policies like summer school offered to home bound students, which is still offered in the home; more awards/raises should be given to those special education teachers who genuinely care about their students and are not just there for a paycheck; and nursing agencies need to be checked on more frequently by the state.

Moms of the Medically Fragile M.O.M.F ADVICE

"My advice to a single mom would be to never forget about self. Always make sure to treat yourself at least once a month to something special, also known as self-care. If you don't take care for yourself, you can't take care of your baby. If you have someone you trust to watch your baby/babies, that would be great to take time out for yourself. But if you're like me, and not able to get away alone, if your baby can go with you, take them with you.

Or you can just enjoy watching a movie together at home during a time, when medications have been given, your baby has been fed, etc. Quality time for me is more special than anything else in this world. " Norma Perez
