It was such a pleasure to have this time to catch up and tell the style story of Kivon Lindley, a native Houstonian, who has accomplished so much in the fashion and entertainment industry.

DS: In our first edition of Style Statement Magazine we want to highlight you as a Houston Style Maker and Keeper. What are your thoughts about that?

KL: I am indeed honored to be highlighted in this way as a Style Keeper and Maker. Wow! You know my life long dream was just to play basketball. i pursued that dream and did well; however, due to an injury, I needed to change my perspective and tap into other gifts some I did not even know I had.

DS: Tell us more about those gifts? What was your first big break in the industry?

KL: I come from a family and legacy of stylers. My mother was a seamstress, and she taught us the value of being well-dressed.

I guess you can say my style comes from a classic viewpoint with a splash of the extra.

Friends suggested I model and I simply got out there and went for it. What was my first big break in the industry? WOW, I believe it's been every break, no matter how big or small. I work with all sorts of people and I believe if you just give your best on a shoot or runway, people will want to work with you again. So my break? Just being who I am seems to be it.

DS: Kivon you have truly stretched boundaries from International basketball league days. With Nike 3on3 Basketball tournaments to Urban films such as Olive. Print ads in Armani suits to full desert scenes layouts. Your style story is so extensive and crosses so many genres in fashion.

In your many experiences and opportunities have you ever faced an injustice, and how did you deal with it?

KL: In this industry, rather it be on the runway or photo shoot, it is competitive. With competition, there is always a chance that the best person for the opportunity was not chosen due to bias, prejudices and or personal connections. How did I deal with it? I simply recognize that it is a possibility and I put my best foot forward and leave a positive image no matter what. I owe that to myself, my family and my legacy.

DS: What do you see as the future for your style story?

KL: To do what I do by creating more opportunities that I curate and control for myself and the others who will come behind me.
