Elevated Grounds
Al Karama Community Centre
With its simple and well-tailored design, the Community Centre inscribes itself in the one and only park all around Al Karama, adding to the experience of park users while also attracting a few new users. The project design responds to the user opinions, the context, passive sustainability, and existing features/landscaping. The project was successful in reaching its goal of low ground-level impact and using the existing context and urban fabric to drive the design. The design connects all the spaces at three different levels, allowing the users to interact and collaborate. Each level highlights a different experience with its iconic Y-shaped steel columns rising from the underground, forming a exo-skeleton for the structure.
