How to Transform a Room

ransforming a room isn’t as hard as it may seem. There are a few things you can do that will have a lasting impact on the overall feeling and appearance. Starting with the right tips and some guidance, a room in need can transform into a room you will love. Most people don't realize this, but loving where you live has a lasting impact on your overall well-being. Quite often, people think that simply adding accessories and beautiful furnishings to a room is enough to beautify it. But, if the room doesn’t have good bones, or a good foundation to start from, adding nice furniture won’t solve the problem. If the walls are awful, the flooring is dated, and the color on the wall is either too dark or bright, what you add in accessories and furnishings will not completely solve the problem. First, decide on the level of project commitment you are willing to make, a few improvements, or a full renovation. Once that’s decided, start with these two aspects of design. Start by correcting the glaring, ugly things that desperately need change or updating in the room: built-in, bookcase, or cabinetry, fireplace, flooring, walls, ceiling, lighting, and architectural features. These are the elements that once changed or improved will have the largest impact on the look and feel of the room. Then, consider the following tips for each; Paint will always transform/improve a piece of furniture, wall or even flooring. If it looks dated and dingy, paint it. Use paint with flat finish on the wall or ceiling (especially if they are textured) it will diminish imperfections. Add or remove existing elements from existing cabinetry, built-ins or large bookcases (add nicer doors to update the look or remove the doors for an open feel. Don’t forget about the hardware as it can be a key component of the updated look. Since the floor is the foundation of a room, fix, paint or replace it. Remember that consistency on the flooring - similar type or color throughout the home - allows for a better flow and feel. Great design takes time and a lot of effort. You will have to spend money, but the reward is worth the investment. If you don’t love where you live, changing it will make an immense impact in your life. Prioritize your happiness at home - invest in your living spaces instead of other short-lived pleasures. Make your home a place stylish and welcoming. You deserve to be surrounded by beautiful things that bring you joy every single day.
